Road trip at 21 wks?

I'm thinking of taking a 7-hr road trip at the end of this month, when i'll be 21 weeks pg with twins.  I'll be driving with my 4y.o. in the backseat and we'll likely stop about 3 times.  what do you think?  have you done anything similar?  any precautions?

before the pg, i've done a 10.5 hr trip with her and i'm used to driving road trips, just not used to being pg with twins ...

  • We just came back from a weekend up north and it was a 5 hour drive each way.  I did all the driving since DH hates driving long distances.  It was perfectly fine.  I just made sure to stop every 90 minutes, sometimes more frequently because of food breaks or whatever.

  • I think a road trip at 21 weeks is the perfect time. I was great until about 28w. After that it was much harder to do everything

  • Have you talked to your OB?  We took a trip at 17w and we contemplated driving.  My Dr told me if we drove, I needed to get out and walk around (to keep blood flowing to the legs, I guess) about every two hours.  This would have extended our trip considerably...we flew :)

I think you'll be fine, just pay attention to your body.

At 20 weeks we drove several hours to Gulf Shores and I was on the beach to see Jimmy Buffett in ridiculously oppressive heat.  I'd had no complications prior and had none after that, fortunately.  Glad I did it because once I hit 30 weeks my doc told me not to go anywhere I wouldn't be comfortable delivering if I went into labor.
