ditch the paci.

M's chipped tooth is fine, just have to watch for any signs of abcess.

but his uppers are moving away from his lowers (front teeth) and it's due to the intensity in which he sucks on the paci. (time and frequency are also factors but not in his case)

so... if anyone has any helpful hints on how to ditch this thing i would appreciate hearing them. the paci is part of his routine, nightly and nap, as in i'm 99.9% sure he will not go to sleep with out it, once he is asleep he's fine, he ususally loses it, but if he wakes up, we pop it back in to get him back to sleep (at night).

i'm dreading this.

  • Aww...we did the bye bye binkie method.  Google it and it should come up.  Basically you start by snipping a tiny hole at the end so it feels different when they suck on it.  Then the next day snip some more, and the next some more and etc.  The point is the kid is supposed to think on their own that the binky is broken or not what they like anymore and stop on their own choice.  Just don't save any or anything bc then you would have to start all over if he finds it.  It was only 1- 1.5 bad days for us.
  • Ditto the snipping technique.  DS had wubbanubs (pacis with little stuffed animals on them) so once they were "broken" he just snuggled them for sleep instead of sucking on them.  Made it easier (as least for Dh and I) than completely taking away his comfort objects.
