Trouble TTC

Giving yourself Ovidrel trigger shot?

I'm going through my first medicated/IUI cycle right now. I have two follicles on my "good side" which is exciting and they think I should be ready for my trigger shot later today - they just need to confirm once they receive my blood test results.

I always assumed the Dr. would give me my trigger shot but they handed to me on my way out. This will be my first time EVER giving myself a shot. Is it painful, any tips?

I know i'm being a big baby...

Re: Giving yourself Ovidrel trigger shot?

  • The Ovidrel needle is really small.  Granted I've never given myself the shot, but I've also never FELT the shot, because the needle is that small.  I understand being nervous -- but try not to psych yourself out!  It's not bad at all.  Smile

  • The Ovidrel needle is really small. Just a small pinch and it's over with. I totally freaked myself out the first time I had to give it to myself, but it's not bad at all. Good luck with triggering!

  • I actually look forward to the Ovidrel now, because it doesn't hurt at all.  The hardest part is psyching yourself up for it.  Smile

  • Agree with PP. It's actually sticking yourself that's the hard part. It truly doesn't hurt at all. But I sat on the edge of the bed for a good 20 minutes before I could actually poke myself with it....and that part didn't seem any easier for my second cycle.

  • I was like you for my first IUI trigger, I brought it with me to the appt. and when they said I had to give it to myself that night I was like Whaaaaaa???!!!  But the anxiety building up is worse than anything.  The shot is nothing.  If you want to use an ice cube to numb the area you can but it's so not needed because the shot is so small it doesn't hurt.  Just take a deep breath and do it.  You'll be fine. :)

  • Agreed with all PP, I just did my first one last week and the hardest part was getting past the fact that I felt it was unnatural to be sticking myself with something sharp.  I didn't feel it and was grateful for that!
