So give me the low down... painful or not so bad? I've heard both. I've heard I was OK 30 min after and I've heard I was down for the day. Just wondering what to expect.
TIA!
Me:39 DH:46 TTC since 11/08
HSG: good; Estradiol: 62 FSH: 4.4

Looking at IUI in Nov
I was told to take 3 advil before hand, and even with those, my HSG was very painful. But it's quick, over in a few minutes. I was a little crampy afterwards, and had to use a pantyliner.
I've read on this board that some doctors give you a stronger painkiller before, and if I had to do one again, I would ask for it.
But maybe that was just me. Others on this board have said their HSGs weren't painful at all.
Me = 38, Husband = 31. TTC since 1/10. M/C at 8 wks 5/10. Started trying again 9/10. All tests normal: AMH/MIS, FSH, HSG, SA. Estradoil high. 6/20/11 - Clomid+Ovidrel+IUI#1=BFN. 7/17/11 - Clomid+IUI#2=BFN. 2 natural cycles = BFN. 10/6/11 - Clomid+Ovidrel+IUI#3=BFN. 10/31/11 - Clomid+Ovidrel+IUI#4 = BFN. 11/26/11 - Follistim+Ovidrel+IUI#5 = BFN. IVF#1 - Menopur+Follistim. 2 ET 5/11/12 = BFN.
I didn't take anything--no one told me to. Mine was not painful, it wasn't great, but it was fast. I had waaaaay too much information before the procedure--so it was nerve wracking--thinking about it. Then it was not so bad. That was my experience. Plus I have already two uterine surgeries and had a lot of scar tissue. Still not bad.
I took 800 mg of ibuprofen before mine, and it wasn't painful at all. I tend to have really bad cramps with AF though, so maybe my tolerance is high, but it was really nothing compared to my usual monthly pain. I was worried about it for days, and it ended up being quick and relatively easy.
Good luck!

I took 3 ibuprofen and a valium. I took the afternoon off of work to rest. The actual procedure was uncomfortable for a short amount of time and I had some cramping later on that day. Watch out for the gunk after the hsg. I had to do some serious cleaning up there near the cervix about 2 days after the procedure.
