Food Allergy

Do you take pictures of LOs reactions?

I was looking back at pictures of my daughter, and I came across ones I took when she had reactions.  They are heart wrenching.  Not to mention the months we didn't know all of her allergies and she was a complete tomato.  So sad.

I like to have them to show the doctor in case it is needed, but man, I hate seeing her like that!

Re: Do you take pictures of LOs reactions?

  • I did for each of the kids, leading up to their first allergist appointment.  Also, If either one of them has a reaction to either something we don't know what caused it, or something new that they have not tested postive for I take pics as well.  I know what you mean about looking back.  I saw some of my daughter at the height of her eczema and she just look miserable.  I remeber her coming to me telling me she is itchy and I just didn't know what else to do for her (before we found out all of her allergies).

  • I did not during his major reaction at 8 months. I wish i did.

I have since then taken photos of his eczema when it flairs up and send it to my allergist.

Here is the one single photo i have of him when he was 3 months old and i had no idea that he had allergies.  This was actually on his GOOD day which is why i even took a photo.

i rarely took photos of him when he broke out.. and this one was with my mom's camera and her holding him so she has more photos of him during his reactions than i do.

  • I keep my phone handy if we are trying a new food just in case.  I don't take pictures of eczema breakouts lately because none of them have been as bad as before his dx.  If he were to have a more severe reaction- I'd want pictures.  Along with being able to show the allergist- I'd selfishly want them so that I could show friends/family that we aren't crazy and let them see what happens when J reacts.

I should have taken pictures of B's skin before I did my elmination diet.  The pedi saw his skin broken out- but I didn't even think to take them for the allergist.  If he has another breakout then I'll take pics- but hopefully I have his/my diet figured out.  When he starts solids we'll take pictures of any reaction.

Magdusia- my son looked the same way.  Giant red welty/weeping patches on his cheeks and all over his little body.  I cringe when I look through his baby book.  The poor baby was just miserable.  And even in the pictures when his skin doesn't look *too* bad- if you look closely he usually has socks over his hands to keep him from scratching his skin raw :(

sounds just like me. we kept socks on his hands also.. otherwise his mittens would come off. And if we didn't put tight socks on his hands he would probably have scratched his eyes out.

I have heard a story of an infant going blind in one eye after he was scratching it so hard. I think it was either the nurse or the pedi that told me this.

so sad.. I hate looking at old pictures. i even altered some photos which i'm not proud of myself for doing that.

  • Yes.  I liked to take them to bring to my pedi and allergist to show them what was happening as we introduced new foods.

Luckily, I haven't had to take a picture in over a year!!

  • I have some pictures of her face with large hives on it from the 3 week hell-period just before her diagnosis. Its gut-wrenching to see now. I was also sure to take a couple pictures of when her face swelled up from a dog allergy reaction -- because there were a few people in our family that scoffed at the diagnosis and I wanted them to see what happens to her. I also have some photos of her terrible eczema as a baby, before any allergies were even on our radar and we bought into the "she just has sensitive skin" BS from our old pedi. It makes me feel like such an a-hole now to think back on how long I basically let her suffer through horrible (bleeding, cracked skin!) eczema before finally ditching that pedi and finding a good allergist and dermatologist.

    :(

That is how we found out my daughter needed glasses when she was 4 months old.  She attacked herself to the point of splitting her eye lids open.

And I have altered pictures too.  I hate myself for that.  I don't even dress her in red because is accentuates her redness Embarrassed

Here is what a "normal" day was like back when she was 6-7 months old.

And I just came across this picture and it made me gasp.  Here is her after a bite of green beans the first time.

I am in a full blown ugly cry at work right now!  oh my gosh! poor baby!  i wish i saved some photos but i deleted them as soon as i saw how bad they were on my computer.   With the second picture -it reminds me of our first Easter together and my BIL asking if he was exposed to poison ivy b/c he was so red and swollen.. pretty much like your second pic.

that's so sad about them scratching.  That's one of the reasons my first nanny was fired. She would put him in front of the tv and completely ignore him while he's scratching his face to the point of bleeding (i had a nanny cam and watched at work -not a good sight.) and that's when my pedi or nurse (i think it was pedi) told me to be careful he doesn't literally scratch his eyes out. I honestly never though it was possible.
