2 Newbie Qs: Rec your diaper rash remedies AND make-ups!

1. Diaper rash remedies: I've heard that just dusing cornstarch would work. WDYT?  I didn't know much about all of the chems when my son was in diapers, but I'm trying to move in a very natural/simple direction as far as remedies are concerned.

2. In that same vein, I was wondering what some of the more EF make-ups were.  I really don't want to spend much money on make-up, but I thought you ladies might have some ideas.

Thanks!  I'm loving this board!

  • You can use corn starch instead of baby powder. AFAIK, it isn't really a diaper rash remedy so much as a preventer. We never used it.

You CAN use just plain olive or coconut oil on an active diaper rash as a remedy.

  • We use coconut oil and Grandma Els diaper cream (it works great but I'm trying to use even more natural remedies and I really like coconut oil). I've used corn starch on hot days and it works well. I don't use make up so I can't help with your second question.

  • Our diaper rash remedy/prevention is actually entirely chemical-free. DS used to get red/rashy in the hip crease a lot. We finally figured out that if we dry him off completely there (I use a dry flannel cloth wipe) each change, it keeps that away much better. The other big thing for us was using a fitted cloth diaper with a fleece lining and either a fleece or wool cover overnight. The breathability of that means any minor redness he gets during the day goes away overnight. Now we hardly ever have to use any sort of cream or ointment at all (and he had a pretty chronic mild/moderate diaper rash situation on his front for a while until we figured this all out).
  • i still use drugstore makeup, but i read the ingredients. more and more of the big name brands are moving to paraben free, which is nice. i know the bare minerals line is free of scary stuff, but it was too expensive for me, personally. i've chosen to go really EF on my cleansers & moisturizers and slightly less so with the actual makeup.
