Hi ladies! I just got my BFP yesterday and am due March 15 2012. I am excited and nervous!
My question: Have any of you been put on medication because you are pregnant and have type A blood? My OB's nurse mentioned it when I had my CP last March but I can't remember much about it. I'll be calling tomorrow and going in on Thursday but I thought I'd check with all of you first.
Forgive me if this has been asked recently, I looked back several pages and didn't see anything. TIA!!
Re: Intro & Q re: Blood type A
Hurrah!! Congratulations!! Welcome.
Are you A Negative. I know that the RH factor (whether you are A+ or A-) makes a difference (but only if you have a negative RH factor) because if your baby is a different blood type, your body might think its a foreign object so you have to have a shot for it during pregnancy. Possibly after birth as well, but I think that one is really for future children but I might be wrong about that.
If you are indeed A-, or any RH negative blood type, you will recieve Rhogam at 28 weeks of pregnancy, and after your dc's birth, if dc is RH positive. If dc ends up also being RH negative, you will not need another shot of Rhogam.
You will receive also receive Rhogam after any type of invasive procedure, such as amnio, or cvs, or if you have any spotting, or any type of trauma, like a car accident or a fall. Basically any time your blood has a potential of mixing with dc's blood in utero.
You would also need Rhogam after a miscarriage or abortion, to protect future pregnancies.
After reading up on it I have been wondering about this. Adding it to my list of questions for appt. Thursday!
Thanks everyone for the responses, I really appreciate it!
