On Wed evening (June 29th) at 33wks I noticed a bit of lower back pain. I thought it was probably just a new symptom of 3rd tri and just had DH rub my back for me. However, as the night went on it got more painful, and I started feeling cramping too - both coming in waves. I called the on call doctor around 2am and he told us to head to L&D. When we arrived they hooked me up to the monitors and realized I was having contractions every 2 minutes and I was 1cm dilated. I was started on terbutine (?? 3 shots throughout the day) to stop the contractions, and they also gave me my first dose of steroids to help LO's lungs mature should we deliver early. They did the FFN test (?) which came back negative, as well as an ultrasound. On the ultrasound they found my cervix was 1cm long (80% effaced?) which was a big concern as that is very short. We met with a high risk OB who said even though the FFN test came back negative, she thought we could be in that 1% that would deliver in the next 2 weeks. (eek!)
That evening I went into full blown labor again and was transferred to a bigger hospital that has a level 3 NICU in case of delivery. Once we got there they determined I was 3cm dilated now and put me on magnesium to stop the contractions. I was puking the entire way there because of the pain. They had to up the dosage but finally got them to slow a bit. Since then I've gotten the 2nd steroid shot for LO's lungs, and have had constant monitoring. Last night I continued to have contractions (though much more manageable and more sporatic) even being on magensium again, so they're going to recheck my cervix today and see if things have changed anymore.
If things quiet down we can go home on bedrest in a couple days, if not, we're here til 34wks (thurs) and then will be transferred back to our hospital closer to home since they can handle 34+wk deliveries.
So it's pretty much been day to day waiting to see how things go. It's my first time staying at a hospital overnight so it's quite the experience, but all of the nurses (at both hospitals) have been great and everyone has assured us that if DS if delivered now he will be totally fine, especially since we got those steroid shots in!
Looking forward to sharing my experience with all of you!
