Elliotte for a girl? Saw this yesterday what are your thoughts??

In my desperate search for a longer version of Ellie I found Elliotte...like Elliot but the more feminine version I presume. I don't mind the using boy names for girls or vice versa I have always been fans of Carson and Carter on girls. Elliotte reminds me of Juliet..thoughts??

  • And with the middle name, one syllable, something simple like Anne. Just throwing it out there! Honest opinions please!

  • It looks made up, like a feminine Elliot wanna-be. No a fan.

If you want to use Elliot for a girl, just do it. Changing a spelling to "fem it up" is generally not a good idea.

  • I actually don't mind Elliott/Elliott (those spellings only, the 'e' on the end is awful, unnecessary, and I believe technically changes the pronunciation some, like Charlotte). The first Elliot I knew WAS a girl, so that's why I don't bat an eye at it. I'm in the minority on that here, though.

  • Ya lots of people have problem with Eliot on a girl, I knew a girl Eliot too never a boy! Maybe it's a trend thing now...my husband and I picked ISOBEL FOR dd #1 before it became the #1 name last year...thank you Twilight

  • Oh, forgot. My issue with it would be that it's an odd combo with Isobel, which is ultra-feminine. While I don't think names have to match, I do think they should at least be the same style.

  • I think it is awful, sorry. The spelling looks just odd and I don't think Elliott on a girl is even remotely nice in the first place. I would keep looking if I were you.

  • I think that if you want to use a boy name on a girl, you should own it.  Spell it Elliot - no need to girlify it with a made-up spelling.

Also, you mentioned that you picked Isobel before it became the #1 name, and it seems like that bothers you...Ellie is also a very, very popular nn right now.  I don't know if you care or not, but I thought I'd point that out.

No, no, no. Elliott is a boy's name. I don't care how many e's or y's are added to it. It's a boy name no matter how you spell it.

If you really like Ellie as a nickname, name her Elizabeth, Elliana, Eliana, Elena, Elissa, Gabrielle, Arabella, Arielle, Ellen, Eleanor, Elisa, Elise, Eliza, Eloise, etc and call her Ellie.

Great point!  I've said this before on here, but I think Ellie is the most underrated (popularity-wise) name right now.  I know 8 baby Ellies, but they have 6 different full names: Ellie, Elizabeth x2, Ellen, Ellis, Elliot, and Elliana x2.  So just looking at the SSA list, you wouldn't thinks its that popular, but when she shows up to preschool, don't be surprised if there are several others.

For what it's worth, I think Ellie is a cute name, and my favorite full names for it are Elizabeth and Eleanor.

  • I'm usually not a fan of boy names for girls, but I don't mind this one.

  • Elliot for a girl is not bad....I'm not a fan of the "fancy" spelling though. I think it's just asking for her to have her name misspelled her whole life. But if spelling doesn't bother you, go for it. I think Elliot is a pretty name for a girl :) (And like the mn too)

I dont mind boys names for girls either, but I dont like Elliott for a girl, and I think the Elliotte looks bloody ridiculous. It looks like Elly-oh-tee, for one thing. Secondly, I think the whole point of boys names for girls is to just use the boys name.

If you like Elliot, just use Elliot.

I agree that the E on the end is unnecessary and makes no sense. I don't mind Elliott for a girl at all though, it kind of makes me think of the girl on Scrubs. If you like elliott use it...with no E. JMO

  • Unlike most of the people on the name boards, I have no issues with masculine names being used for girls, but the extra "e" at the end bugs me.  It makes it look like it should be pronounced differently.  I'd say stick with Elliott, or pick something different.
  • yuck. sorry. i'm tired of boy names going to the girls.

  • I really love the name Elliot/Eliot for a girl.  It was on my short list, but the nn Ellie sounded funny with our last name.  I say go for it!  I'm a huge fan of traditional boy names for girls.

  • I really only think of E.T. when I hear Elliot. I strongly dislike this name, especially for a girl.

  • We named our little girl Elliot Elizabeth and I am 100% happy with our decision to do so.  I love her name.  We call her Ellie for short.  Others are split 50/50 on liking the name but we didn't name her to impress other people. We've found for the most part, older people don't get and people my age love it.  I like that our DD won't have the same name as 5 other girls in her class.

We considered other spelllings of the name (Elliette, Elliotte) but decided we like the more traditional spelling.  If you like it, don't listen to other people......and when you do listen to other's opinions, take into consideration what they named their kids!  If we all agreed on the same names, all little girls would be Sophia or Bella!
