Would you paint if you were me?

We moved into this apartment a few months ago and have just recently decided we are going to stay here at least a year. It's a very old house, we live on the second floor and it's 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom.

The landlord said we were more than welcome to paint and he would even reimburse us for the cost of paint and materials.

The walls are ugly, plain and simple. I thought I was going to be fine with it but have really been thinking about how much cuter this place could be if we painted.

The problem is that I'm pregnant and not entirely sure I want to take on this task. I'm pretty anal about painting so it would be a lot of work for the next 3-4 weeks.

Should I do it or suck it up and live with it like it is???

(I know I'll need adequate air flow for this project because of the baby and kids)

Re: Would you paint if you were me?

  • I would because I think a little paint can totally change a room/house. It doesn't take me that long to paint and I'm not pg, so my opinion might be a little different than yours.
  • I would. We just moved and will only be here a year and I still painted the girls room. I feel like it just makes a place more homey. And I've painted pregnant, just took frequent breaks and made sure to have good air flow.

  • Paint can make such a huge difference - I would definitely do it (with low-VOC, low odor, environmentally friendly paints and really good air flow).

Alternately, wondering if there's a college student or the like who's looking to make a few extra bucks who could do it for you?  When we were getting ready to sell our house we were able to find a local handyman who did a great job painting and was super-inexpensive... worth asking at your local hardware/paint store if there's someone they know who might be able to the job for you inexpensively :)

  • I painted when pg w/ DD. DH has masks that you can attach different filters on for the right application. I think it's around $30 at home depot, plus a few bucks for the filters. Using that, I didn't smell fumes while I painted and we kept the ventilation going.
