Poor Warner has had a rough week. Last Thursday he took a bad fall at the pool and left a portion of his nose and chin on the concrete and got a major bloody nose. (he was fine very quickly and has healed up remarkably fast, thank goodness, but mommy is still recovering)
Then yesterday he fell down our back steps and basically has a black eye. I don't even know how this one happened...poor guy. We were going outside to play with his water table yesterday and I was only about 5 feet in front of him in the yard when I heard him cry and turned around to see him face down on the bottom step. He has navigated those steps just fine all by himself a bazillion times before, so I don't know what on earth happened, but I felt awful.
Anyway, this is a long way of asking how on earth I can get him to put ice on his boo boos. His upper cheek/undereye area was really swollen yesterday and is still pretty puffy this morning, but he won't let me anywhere near him with a cold pack. DH and I were saying that we could wrestle him down and put some ice on it, but it wouldn't even be worth the effort, because it's not like we could hold him down for 20 minutes, KWIM? Does anyone have any tips or techniques? Or is this just a lost cause?
Re: injuries :-(
Try using one of those boo boo buddies things. Buy a couple fun designs and let him choose which one he wants. Then try making a game out of it - put it on yourself and make a big fun deal about how it is so cold. Then do the same to him. Do it back and forth. Maybe that will work for a few minutes. The other technique I've tried is just to get them when they're mellow - like sitting on your lap watching TV or something - and just trying to hold it there yourself. You may need to wrap it in a paper towel so it isn't quite so cold. Even my 4 yr old doesn't like how cold it is sometimes. And she needs ice packs ALL THE TIME. It's really quite ridiculous! LOL. GL!
poor Warner!
we have a boo boo bunnies and a fishie. the bunny lives in the fridge and the fish in the freezer. sometimes DD will ask for them even when she doesn't have a boo boo
Boo boo buddies are amazing. DH and I even use them. Maybe have two and give him one and put one on your face too (we are at the stage where he is copying us like crazy, not sure if this continues to work when they are older)
And with the lip, DH put an ice cube in one of those mesh teether bags and DS was all over that. DH got the dad of the year award for that idea.
