I make our laundry detergent with borax, washing soda, and ivory and use white vinegar and dryer balls. Now that we are starting to get baby clothes and planning to CD, I was wondering what you use to clean them.
I would like to use the same detergent for every thing, but understand if I can't.
Suggestions?
Hi! I am pregnant with our first and learned so much from the green/ef board on the nest so looking to get some great tips here!
Re: home made detergent question/ intro
I've made this detergent (I just make small batches of it not the full batch recipe) for years now. You can use it on clothes and it's cloth diaper safe. Bonus - no shredding soap. My husband works for the post office as a carrier so he's outside in the heat all summer long sweating into his clothes. We wash everything on cold and his uniforms come out completely clean.
And welcome! It's been a little slow around here recently but we're a pretty helpful bunch and don't mind answering just about anything!
Welcome!
A lot of people use the recipe for detergent from this blog. I use Charlie's Soap for everything and it works really well for me.
We do too. And we also use it for everything. I'm too lazy to shred soap. Screw that.

thanks! I have seen that recipe before too. I read all through that blog while researching CD and completely forgot to look there for detergent.
as for shredding the ivory ... I used a cheese grater for years to shred it. Then I realized that our food processor has a grating attachment. I felt like an idiot.
mixing powders sure sounds a lot easier though!
So you use the clothing recipe for everything? Or the CD recipe for everything? Does anyone have any problems with oxiclean on their diapers/baby clothes, or even fading darks? I currently make the clothing recipe and wouldn't mind making the next batch a CD batch if it works!
