"Nestea Plunge" baby? Anyone?

Hi!  My 12 month old is learning to stand by himself and has taken about 2 steps so far.  But, he doesn't know how to sit down from standing. He will literally throw his head back and fall straight back like a stiff board, no bending!   He is getting tiring to be around because he only wants to be on the move, but hasn't learned to crawl yet and only wants to walk holding onto someone's fingers.  Even if he's standing playing at something I have to be behind him constantly since he will throw himself back if he looses his balance!  we have wood floors with some rugs on them so he can really hurt himsel!  Any suggestions on how to get him to just plop down on his bottom like other babies?  I keep trying to show him by kind of pushing his knees in but it doesn't seem to work!  thanks!
