With Adler I'm not sure, We always got to our spot on the lake around the 5-6:30 time frame, the last time we went was in 09 and it was PACKED.With all the show cancellations I would get there around the time you said, if anything you can walk around that area people are usually always friendly and its hilarious to people watch! We would get to our spot and someone would stay behind or we would alternate to get food and what not.
Did you mention the 'big fountain' last night? if so, where is that?
Our idea right now is to stay in Schaumburg, then take the train/bus to Adler. The only other thing I thought was maybe parking at O'Hare, then taking train/bus from there....any thoughts on those?
I don't know about the crowds for the 4th, we stay away from there then. You can take the metra train ( www.metrarail.com ) right from Schaumburg, it goes to Union Station (that is the line we take in) We tend to hop in a cab (we make sure we go in one of the minivan cabs) to go to the aquarium (right next to Adler) Have a great time!
Thanks, KN. I was planning on the Metra. Do you have an idea of how much the taxi-van is? And what about kid rates on the Metra....I just see $5.75/person....are kids free?
Yes Buckingham Fountain , it's in Grant Park where they hold the Taste Of Chicago. If your planing on going to the Taste its near there. It's before Lake Shore Dr.
Try this link it should take you so you can see where the fountain is from Adler.
Parking at O'hare could get pricey! I'm not too familar with the Trains/Bus From Shaumburg, I lived in Arlington Heights, So we would take the Arlington heights metra to Olgilve(sp probably wrong) which is the end of the line and in Chicago and then take the buses to get to the Taste. The last few years I just drove there and parking at Millennium park or Navy Pier wasn't too bad.
Last day of the Taste is on the 3rd. Children 7 and under ride free with a fare paying adult (up to 3 children for each fare paying adult) Make sure you buy your tickets at the station (if it is open, otherwise you pay a fee)
I'm not sure how much it is for a cab, yes, we take them, but I honestly can't remember. Last time we tried the water taxi, you can get on that right at Union Station, the kids absolutly loved that. www.shoreline.com (I think that is the correct website) Adler Planetarium is at the museum campus.

Thanks, Ladies!
We'll just be there the night of the 4th, on our way back from Wisconsin, so we'll miss the Taste.
All the info is great - I really appreciate it!
