anyone with FPIES diagnosis?

My son Trevor was diagnosed with FPIES probablly around 6 months ago. He is 22 months now. He was pretty sick for about 8 months before we figured out what was wrong. Now he is in speech therapy for a delay but he is starting to show alot of other delays too. His speech therapists mentioned it might be apaxia. I am just wondering  if it could be aparaxia or maybe its just a regular developmental delay resulting from being so sick. Does anyone have experiance with FPIES and developmental delays? I would love to hear

Re: anyone with FPIES diagnosis?

  • In my experience, 22 months is on the young side to diagnose apraxia. That said, I have a child with apraxia and from what I understand, apraxia is more about how the brain transmits the messages to the mouth muscles. Much like a person who has had a stroke and must retrain the neruo pathways to make correct sounds, a child with apraxia has to do the same thing.

DDs official list of diagnoses include: Childhood Apraxia of Speech, Idiopathic Myoclonic Epilepsy of Infancy (resolved), Oral Stage Dysphagia (looking like it has finally resolved), Expressive Communication Delay, Sensory Processing Disorder and the ever ambiguous Developmental Delay.

There are some other moms here who have kiddos with apraxia.

Good luck with the food stuff. DD1 and DD2 both had serious allergies, but after googling, I think we got off super easy compared to what you guys are going through.

  • My daughter has FPIES, but has no developmental delays.  I'm sorry to hear about your son's condition.
    :)
  • We have fpies to rice and oats and have speech delays too
  • My DS has apraxia but is healthy other wise. He was evaluated by two different slps right around 24-25 months and both thought he was just fine. Then at 2.5 a third slp evaluated him and dropped apraxia on us immediately. We've been in speech ever since. He's made great progress.

I'm not much help but I can answer some of your apraxia questions if you have more...
