S/O c-sections, ? about scar

do you think a c/s scar would be bigger/longer because of an emergency vs. scheduled c/s?

I'm asking because I've seen some really small scars, but mine is very long (almost hip to hip). I'm wondering if it was because my delivery was an emergency situation?

  • I agree with the PP. My c/s was emergency too. I have no other c/s to compare it to but my scar is on the longer side IMO.

No. My scar was only about 5-6" long and really small and unnoticeable, and I had an emergency c-section.

  • I think the scar/cut probably has more to do w/ the position of your baby.

I had a scheduled c/s and I have a short cut above my bikini line (which is totally ironic since I've been too fat to wear to a bikini for 20 years and yeah, the scar isn't really a factor) but I believe if your baby is positioned differently, they cut differently.

  • Mine's small & it was an emergency c/s but I was also only 31 weeks when I delivered.
  • I don't think it matters.

I had two, one scheduled, one emergency, same size scar.

  • It depends...during my OB rotation, I assisted in about 20 c/s and during a couple of emergency ones, they did make them bigger to get the baby out faster. For me, my 1st was not an emergency, but they had trouble getting her shoulders out, so they told me that were gonna have to make the incision bigger.

  • I had a schedules csection and my scar is about 5in
  • I think it mostly has to do with the OB.  My first was 9 lbs 9 ozs and my scar was REALLY small.  My second was 6 lbs 11 ozs and my scar is about an inch longer on each side.  Both were planned, both kids were positioned the same.  The only difference was the doctor.

  • With my scars, I think it was the OB that made the difference.  My 2nd section was scheduled so I chose my dr and my scar is much smaller and smoother only 2 mos pp compared to my previous scar.  Both OB's are in the same practice and I just personality wise liked this OB better and when I asked him if he did everything the same (assuming he did) he surprised me by saying he would make a smaller incision than what I previously had and that he uses a different type of stitch than his partner (obviously a better one!)
