What do you think of this name? Would you call him Harris or Harry as a nickname? I originally loved the name William, but I'm afraid it has become extremely popular based on the social security website.
The lowest the name ever dropped in the past 100 years was to #20 in 1995. It always has been popular and it's always going to be popular. That said, I graduated in 2001, so people I went to school with were born between 1980-ish and 1986-ish. I knew exactly 2 Williams in my school of about 2,000. I can think of maybe 2 in my college of 5,000. Don't focus on the popularity of a name based on where it falls in the list. Think of it in terms of percentage of the population with that name (and remember that it varies from state to state). Even the most popular name in the country is about 1% of the total population.
In regard to your question, however, I love Harrison (clearly you have good taste!), and I wouldn't call him Harry and certainly not Harris. Just Harrison.
Also, we had a NN decided for our DS before he was born, and it's always stuck. He even calls himself by the NN at this point b/c it will be a while before he can say his full name.
I love the name Harrison! It's my DH's middle name, so I plan to use it if we have a son. For the nn I would use Harris not Harry. Harry is just not pleasing to me.

Same here. I love the name, it's been on my list for years [as has William].

Love! We are considering Harrison Rhys. If we did go with it, I plan on telling everyone that it's Harrison and NOT Harry. I hate Harry. The only Harry I've ever liked is Harry Potter I would maybe consider Harris, but why do we have to have a nickname? Harrison Ford has always been Harrison and it's a damn cool name as is.
FWIW, I like Harrison WAY more than William.

Re: Harrison
As a mom-to-be naming her baby-to-be "William..."

My H suggested this name - he recently became a fan of the show Dexter and Dexter's baby is named Harrison.
It's not my style, but it's nice.
