I think if its vomit, they will continue to spit it up multiple times in a row and maybe crying would be involved?
My nephew projectile spits up, it looks like vomit but it doesn't phase him the least and he does it once every hour or so.
I've always heard that when a baby vomits they cry afterwards (b/c it burns), and when its just spit up they don't cry...
