Ok, I don't mind mind (when I say I don't' mind, I mean they don't scare the sh** out of me as much) the small ones that seem to hang out around the front door and sneak in every now and then. What freaks me out is the big ones (the ones that are at least like an inch or two, or more) and I while I have only had a few over the last year, they always seem to be in the master bath tub. Not only do they freak the he** out of me, but I can't figure out where they are coming from and the spray guy said that despite only being in that location, they don't come throughout he pipes and come from outside. I'm not sure what I'm getting at without his post other than, how do y'all keep cockroaches out? Am I the only one with a huge fear of them? We didn't have these in Wa. and I'm probably being a baby about this but they freak me out!

Re: S/O of Weather....Bugs (roaches)
I hate any bug. HATE them. We had the same problem, and I still find them occasionally. We don't (knock on wood) have an infestation or a problem with them, but I find them in the weirdest places. The exterminator that comes out can't figure out where they come from either.
I find them in our master bath (no external walls or openings) or in the bedrooms. A few weeks ago I found one sitting on a throw pillow on my couch. It took all of my self control not to throw the whole couch out the door and burn it.
I guess I don't have any advice, just sympathy. It's just a part of life here. A disgusting, horrific part of life here lol.
i think you are talking about are (what i've always heard called) tree roaches. and they do come from outside. we have 3 large oaks in the front and back yards, so we used to get them a lot.
we had biotech pest control come out and do their 1x/year pest control treatment, and we have not had a problem since. the first couple of days we were dealing with cleaning up some that showed up dead, but no more after about a week.
Ya, I HATE bugs!! We have had the exterminator come and he said the same thing about the big ones being tree sap roaches. We have only had a like 3 or 4 throughout the year, but they always seem to end up in the master bathroom like in the bathtub, and one was just hanging out in the bedroom. Those are the ones that freak me out the worst. There is nothing like waking up in the middle of the night to go pee, turn the light on and glance over in your bath tub and see one of them moving around.
I give you props for keeping your cool when it was on your bed!
Small roaches hanging out by the door? Do you mean june bugs? They swarm towards the light and hang out on doors. But they aren't roaches.
If you really have roaches hanging out anywhere, then you need an exterminator ASAP because that's an infestation. I don't think most people have little roaches here. The huge ones, yeah, but there's not a whole lot you can do about it, they can squeeze through the tiniest gaps and they just show up randomly. Having an exterminator come out will help with them, but you'll still find random ones, they'll just be more likely to be dead when you find them!
We had an exterminator come spray before the baby & I chatted about bugs with him. The huge roaches aren't a problem, most people get one or two now and then but they are outside bugs and won't stay in your home. Just kill them when you see them. I get them on a papertowel and flush them.
The little roaches are a problem and you need to get rid of them ASAP. If you have one or two, you have many. They feed off water and your food and multiply very quickly!
Oh, really?? I just assume because the big ones are so much bigger and scarier, that those were the ones to watch. We got sprayed but I'm having them come back because they seem to sneak in the front door. Ew, that creeps me out. I hate roaches!!
Nope! Those big guys don't discriminate. You'll run across them in and around the fanciest, cleanest house in the city.
I was not aware that some can fly! Gross x1000.
We had the flying roaches earlier this year and they were really hard to get rid of! Apparently they are not native to Houston, our exterminator said they typically live in warehouses and feed off cardboard and most people get them from deliveries. We had been getting deliveries from online stores like crazy a few months before the baby and I noticed a few of them & called the exterminator.
We sprayed once, then again two weeks later and I haven't seen any since, so I'm thinking we got them! He said don't keep any boxes or old newspapers/magazines around. In addition to getting into your food, they eat the glue out of boxes and magazines. He said they were the hardest to get rid of because they don't respond to any roach sprays you buy like Raid, and he even had to go back to his office to get a differnt spray once I told him they were flying roaches. Good luck!
We used Amrid and were very happy with them.
