In the back of our office we have a storage room that houses all of our admissions and recruitment materials. The space is less than desirable, not set up in a very efficent/practical way, nasty concrete floors, ect. We are actually just starting a reonvoation to improve/increase the space.
One of my co-workers is an older lady with lots of health problems as well as some mobility issues. Earlier today she was going back into that room with our student workers and suddenly a student worker came running out and said my co-worker had fallen. I ran back there and she was laid out on the (concrete floor) mumbling, almost incoherent. I was very concerned that she had hit her head on the floor or something. We told her not to move, called 911 and thankfully they arrived soon. After much observation it was determined that she hadn't hit her head, just knocked her shoulder on a shelf on the way down and hit her knee when landing.
The emergency response workers advised her to go to the ER but she didn't want to. She called her doctor and he's able to see her at 5:00 for x-rays.
I was so concerned for her, especially when we were worried it was her head/neck. She was practically hysterical and almost worked herself into an anxiety attack.
We iced her knee but couldn't find an ace bandage to wrap the ice up with so we jimmy rigged a redneck version with a Kroger bag, a long garbage bag and packing tape. Ahh..the stuff that goes on in this office...
My nerves are shot. I need a drink.
