Food Allergy

wheat flour vs. white flour

I want to make a chocolate cake for my daughter so she can enjoy dessert with everyone for 4th of July.  I have only used 100% whole wheat flour when baking things for her.  I know white flour will taste better in a cake and want to use that, but I wasn't sure if you could be allergic to one and not the other, or are they made up of the same thing?  She has never had white flour, and I don't want to introduce anything "new" over the weekend.

Thanks!

Re: wheat flour vs. white flour

  • Not sure about your question but Food Allergy Mama has a great chocolate cake/cupcake recipe in her book and on her website.  It's light, airy and delicious!  I think it uses cake flour which is different from all purpose flour.

  • White All Purpose Flour?  Def has wheat in it.  I'd try using Rice Flour.  I make an awesome, Gluten, diary, egg, soy, and nut free cake and everyone who has had it has loved it.

  • I think the previous poster misunderstood your question.  If your child tolerates wheat flour, then white flour will not be a problem.  White flour is wheat flour with the bran removed.
  • My daughter can have wheat.  She is actually allergic to rice!  I was just asking if you can be allergic to one and not the other (white vs wheat)?
