just wondering your thoughts...we're considering IUI #5 in August or September..
after last m/c in March....doc suggested moving on to IVF...
Is it worth doing another cycle of IUI?
The key to life is to enjoy the journey
IUI#1 & #3=BFN (2010)
IUI #2=c/p (2010)
IUI#4-BFP,but ruled ectopic(2011)
IUI#5: Feb 2012 (clomid, bravelle & ovidrel)
We moved on to IVF after 3 IUI's but we would not have been ready to before that. So it all has to do with what you guys are comfortable with and ready for.
TTC#1 since 7/07 with MFI and Endo/PCOS
IUI #1 and #2 with 50mg of clomid= BFN
IUI#3 with 100mg of clomid and Bravelle= BFN
Lap surgery 11-18-09= found Stage IV Endo
Three months of Depot Lupron Shots and adding 2000mg Metformin
IVF w/ ICSI May 2010 = BFP, M/C at 6 weeks
Break to lose weight, down 60 pounds and gearing up for IVF #2 in August 2011
no MFI or egg quality issues..same thing no coverage for IVF

We're doing 6. At this point, we (including my RE) aren't very hopeful they're going to work but the way I'm rationalizing it is I did 3 prior to my lap where they removed endo and some polyps and fibroids so I'll do 3 after. If this next one is a bust we're moving on to IVF in January of 2012.
Are you 100% OOP or do you have some IUI coverage? That would be a big deciding factor for me. If you have some coverage I would say go for it.

100% OOP for IVF..copays for IUI.
Our RE has never actually performed our IUI. We go to location closer to our house for IUI and used the same doc each time...
our RE office is great for betas M-F since it opens earlier than location by house

I would say it depends on your situation (insurance coverage, dx, age, etc.). We moved on to IVF after three IUI's. Best of luck to you!

We did 4. I really only wanted to do 3 but Dr thought that we would have a really good chance on the fourth. Now I feel very ready for IVF since we know we have at least tried the low tech way.
Pursing Domestic Infant Adoption through a local agency. In the meantime, our dog is our baby. Bumping from Portland, Oregon.
I am going to ignore my unmedicated/unmonitored IUIs in this, b/c I think they were a waste of time (for us personally).
Initially, we were going to do 3 clomid IUIS, then move onto 3 injectible IUS, then IVF. We got a BFP after our 2nd clomid IUI but had a m/c. Our RE suggested we do 3 more Clomid IUIs since it worked, although he would be OK if we wanted to move to injectibles now. We have done 1 more clomid cycle that resulted in a BFN.
We are completely OOP for all infertility related expenses.

I'm in a similar boat. I have done 4 IUI's and I'm ready to move onto IVF. I'm OOP for everything which is kind of holding me up. My Dh thinks we should do 1 or 2 more but I think they are a waste of money with our diagnosis. But, then I see people getting a BFP on their 5th or 6th IUI and I second guess my self. But, as of now I'm done with IUI's and trying to figure out how to pay for IVF. Good luck in yoru decision!! If I only had to pay co-pays for IUI's I would maybe try them again.
My RE suggests three of each kind of treatment. We did one clomid IUI (clomid was not my friend) and three injectable IUIs before we moved on. I. Glad we moved to IVF when we did because IVF let us see that my eggs were just awful. We could have done endless IUIs and never had success.
Trying to grow our family with both fertility treatments and adoption since March 2009
we did 3, we were going to do one more with injects but taking the stats into consideration we decided to move to IVF we are OOP as well, and considering we spent over $3000 on the 3 IUI's, the inject one would have been even more it made more sense to us to move on to IVF. good luck in your decision.

Re: How many IUI's before moving on to IVF?
I think DH and I will probably do all 6 IUIs, mostly for financial reasons. We have no coverage for IVF.
I think it really depends on your diagnosis, though. If you have any MFI issues or egg quality issues, it might not make sense to keep doing IUIs...

I agree it depends on your Dx.
