I was following a reduced calorie diet in the attempt to lose 20lbs (I am about 25lbs overweight) before I got pregnant. My husband and I decided to TTC and if it happened, it happened and I would just have to focus on losing weight after the baby was born.
Well I found out last week that I am 4wks pregnant and I am confused about the eat 300 extra calories recommendation. Do I add 300 to what my weight loss calorie goal was or do I add 300 to what my maintainance calorie goal would be? Can someone please clarify? My first Dr. appt is late next week, but I'd like to start now. Thanks.
Re: XPost- Calorie Confusion
You don't need any extra calories in the first trimester. This link will give you some good information.

I think it depends. If you are overweight already, you may not actually have to add any calories. You may be eating enough as it is. It's something you should discuss with your doctor. She/he will be able to tell you how many pounds you should gain during the pregnancy. My doctor recommended I gain 25-30 pounds because I was a "normal" weight. Someone who is overweight may only need to gain 10-15. Since your appointment is next week, I wouldn't really be too concerned right now.
