Toddlers in a pool

My girls have never been in a real pool...just blowup. What can I buy for them to float...tube? Arm floaties? Thanks!

Re: Toddlers in a pool

  • My friend has a swimsuit that has floaties inside of it for her son and it works well. I used a floating ring with a seat in it for my daughter or I just hold her :)

  • we bought puddle jumpers for the girls this year...haven't been to the pool yet (damn rain) so I don't know 1st hand how well they work...but I've herad good things...
  • At 2, I'd put them in life jackets.  I bought DS a Speedo one specifically for swimming (not boat safe, so it's not as bulky).  He wears it without a fuss and I feel much safer with him in it - especially having two toddlers to keep an eye on!

  • We bought LO a puddle jumper and she loves it.  It's great and I love that you can adjust how snug it is.

We also bought one of those rings that has netting along the bottom of it, so you can sit little one inside the ring over the netting and they stay put.  She likes riding around the pool in that too.  You can find both at Target.

Never heard of a puddle jumper! I'll have to check that out.
  • We have tried DD's puddle jumper twice and it is just o.k. She still tips forward and if I was not holding her up her face would go forward and be submerged in the water. Maybe it will be better when she's bigger. It does make it easier though since I don't have to have her clinging to me.

  • we open the pool June 1 and as soon as we put the flotation device on Hunter he learned how to swim he keeps it on whenever we are out by the pool i think they are great.

  • I'd get life vests. At 2, there's just no other way that I'd feel comfortable unless there was a 1 to 1 ratio of adult to toddler. Those arm floaties can pop. Also, sometimes kids get so comfortable that they'll jump in alone before you've put the floaties, etc. on. With a life vest, they might be more likely to leave it on when they're just hanging out beside the pool.

  • I bought two puddle jumpers.  Sarah uses hers but isn't a big fan of the pool.  William used his like once but he wanted to use just swimmies so I let him and he is awesome.  KJ was using just swimmies at 2 as well.

  • LOVE our puddle jumpers.  The boys do great in them and I can take both boys in the the pool by myself.  Actually they were both in an in ground pool this afternoon with a 9 year old girl and me by the side/in the water.  They were jumping off the diving board, swimming end to end, etc.  They LOVE the puddle jumpers and so do I.
