Cloth Diapering

Tide for Cds

Hi Ladies,

I've lurked here often when in need of help, but now I'm really in need of some! We've cloth diapered for a while now and always used Rockin Green with no problems.  Then we moved.  Now we have SUPER hard water (we have even residue on our dishes if we let them air dry) and even the Hard Rock isn't working.  My prefolds feel almost crunchy and they aren't absorbing very well.  I stripped them at a friends house who has the same water as my old house, so we're starting fresh.

I've heard of using Tide, so I bought a small bottle and used 1 tbls and I now have more suds than ever!  I've rinsed through an entire wash cycle 3 times and still have soap in the water.

 HELP!

Re: Tide for Cds

  • I use Tide Original Powder.  Which is discontinued.  I believe some moms on here have used the Ultra with no problems.  Definitely have to get the powder kind though.  I have normal water, so I don't have much to say about how much to use in Hard Water.

  • I use Ultra and medium hard water. A heaping tablespoon for a full bag/bin of dipes plus a capfull of Calgon to soften the water. I really think the Calgon allows the diapers to get cleaner as well as rinse cleaner than would otherwise happen with out medium hard water. Fingers crossed but no stink or buildup yet!

  • We havw been cding for 5 months now and I use about a tablespoon of tide ultra original sent. I do not have any problems with our diapers or too many suds but I always set my front load on extra rinse. If I still see a few suds (which is only if DH starts the diaper laundry) then one more rinse fixes it. I would try the Calgon to soften the water and see if that helps.

  • Thank you for all your input.  Quick clarification, you use tide powder not liquid right?  I used the original liquid because I could get a small bottle for cheap, but I'll have to try the powder and the calgon.
