ok I have a dumb question

Is a 44oz slurpee a day bad during pregnancy? I have been having one almost everyday since its been so hot and muggy all the time. And it just hit me that maybe I should be thinking about all the sugar and caffeine. If its my only caffeine intake is my delightful 89cent slurpee from speedway bad for baby?

Re: ok I have a dumb question

  • Fruit flavored slurpees typically don't have caffeine in them - only the ones made with coke or mountain dew etc. I'd be more concerned about all of the sugar, calories, artificial flavoring, etc. Go to https://www.slurpee.com/flavors/ and search for the flavors you've been drinking. Make sure to multiply any calories, sugar info, etc by 5.5 as the serving size listed for nutritional information is only 8 oz. Talk to your doctor about your intake and see if he/she has any concerns.

  • I think only the slurpees made with soda have caffeine in them. I think the only concern would be all the sugar and empty calories but IMO theres a lot worse things you could do daily than drink a slurpee Wink. I have been getting large blue raspberry icees a lot.

  • this may seem like a sh*tty comment back, and I dont mean it to sound mean..but seriously? a huge slurpee? the first ingredient is High fructose corn syrup, then water..its listed in amount order, so there is more random crap than water and its a slurpee...also random colorings like red 40? I just dont know why you have to have one, it is grose when you think about what it actually is...

I'm sorry, but unless you're one of those to only eat raw foods, I can guarantee that you are eating processed food with high fructose corn syrup, red #40 and a bunch of other crap in it. It's hard not to eat processed food these days.

It's your opinion that it's gross, but that's not what the OP was asking for. So try answering the question appropriately.

To the OP - I love slurpees, but agree with the first couple of posters that I think you should be more worried about the sugar content. That is a lot of sugar to consume in one drink, not to mention a bunch of empty calories. So maybe cut it back to 2 or 3 slurpees a week and only a 20oz instead of a 44oz.

I am one of those people that doesnt eat processed foods...and I still think its terrible...

  • I dont think it is that terrible. I might cut down on the size and frequency, but crackwhores have babies.  You are doing better than them.

  • I have to agree that this is in fact pretty bad. Even if you weren't pregnant. You might as well just eat a bunch of straight sugar. It's totally not a big deal to have one every so often but every day? Come on. You're an adult, you know better. Eat some fruit.

If you don't eat processed foods, OF COURSE you *still* think it's terrible.  DUH!

OP, yeah it's a lot of sugar.  Have you had your GD test yet?  I love slurpees, too, and can't blame you one bit for satisfying your craving.  I try to keep stuff like that at 32oz or less LOL  But I don't have them daily either.  It could be worse, though.  My mom drank a 6-pack of Dr. Pepper every day while pregnant with me.  She and I both survived :)

  • Thanks everyone who actually answered the question. Today would have been the 4th day in a row so thats what got me thinking about it. I will be cutting it down to maybe 2 a week and a smaller size lol. And just to clear things up other than the slurpee I only drink water and milk, I eat fast food maybe once a month, and for the most part we only eat organic, oh and last but not least I do eat my fruits and vegetables. Maybe you should take your own advice act like a grown up and stop making judgmental assumptions.
  • My eating habits have gotten aweful lately.  I am also an organic eater-I put a lot of effort into eating healthy but have gotten so off track lately.  I think that I turn to sugar to make me feel better-it is much easier on my system than fruits and veggies-but so wrong to do daily-ugh!  It is so easy to reach for a slurpy or coke our appetites and hunger and energy levels are all over the place.  Hope you find a happy medium for your slurpy fix a...smaller size is a great start.

Oh for crying out loud. I am going to totally give in to the urge to hormonally fight with you about this.

You yourself said it was a dumb question...probably because you know good and well that it's bad to drink a giant gosh damn slurpee everyday! You asked if it was bad, the answer is yes. Otherwise you wouldn't be cutting back, am I right? I'm pretty sure every poster "actually answered the question". I'm sorry if you didn't like some of the answers, but you had to know this was gonna take some heat when you posted it. And for the record no one made any assumptions about the rest of your diet, sweetie. All I was saying is that *sometimes* you could make a grown up decision to eat some fruit instead of a giant slurpee. FFS.

PERSONALLY I think it's excessive, but that's just based on my own slurpee intake... I get a toothache just looking at the size of that cup and couldn't imagine drinking 44oz a day.  If you're trying to cut back, check out those frozen fruit pops in the ice cream section at the grocery store (I think 7/11 might even sell them in the ice cream case!)... they often have the same sugary/fruity taste with less sugar and more natural fruits.

  • I think a small one every now and then is fine.  I'd put it in the same category as drinking a soft drink.

I was addicted to Sprite/Sierra Mist during 1st trimester because I only drank diet sodas before getting pregnant and couldn't have artificial sweeteners while pregnant.  I packed on 20 pounds up to week 19 so ever since that appointment, I have maybe one Sprite a week and drink mostly only water (a small glass of orange juice or milk here and there.)  I'd probably be up 40 pounds if I continued, but baby is getting bigger and my weight is staying steady at my 19 week checkup.

I do love Rita's though...I think I've had a small Italian ice 4 times during my pregnancy.  Good thing Rita's is across the toll bridge and I don't go that way very often!!!

Yes  That's a good idea. (Check the ingredients to make sure it doesn't contain aspartame or other artificial sugars though.)

FYI the reason I titled the post " dumb question" is because for the most part I think its stupid to ask questions on here.  If I had an Ob right now I would have called but since I wont have another til Thursday. And when you say "probably because you know..."  That would be another assumption

  • I can't believe no one addressed the most important part of her post.

You only pay $.89 for a 44oz Slurpee, wtf. The little one I buy E is like $1.25 or something. I buy the 44oz ones but I also only eat part of it then freeze the rest (lasts 4 days or so). I don't eat ice cream or anything else like that on days when I have my Slurpees so I figure it evens out.
