Station/Position before labor

I've been progressing well dilation/effacement-wise but my baby still hasn't officially "dropped" according to my doctor.  (She says baby is really low but not officially dropped.) I know this should have happened by now, yet I know of several people who didn't completely drop until they were in labor (even with their first babies). We're obviously still just waiting and seeing but since we're getting down to the wire, I'm wondering what happens if baby doesn't drop? My doc has indicated that it could be that baby just hasn't done their thing yet, or it could indicate that they will not fit through the pelvic girdle.  Was/is anyone else in this same boat?  Did you eventually drop (even in labor)? Or did you end up needing a c-section?

Re: Station/Position before labor

  • At 38w5d, my baby was still very high up, so my OB thought for sure I'd make it to 40w. Less than 48 hours later, I was in full blown labor and had my daughter at 39w1d. I had a normal vaginal delivery.

  • I dont know if this counts as dropped but I was -2 when I went in and had a good labor and easy delivery.

Thank you, ladies! You both give me hope.  Samara, my doctor didn't tell me baby's station last week but I'd guess a  -1 from what she said/I've read. She said baby was as low as they could be w/o having officially dropped. Hopefully I can still have a vaginal delivery, too.

  • When I went in Sunday LO was at -3, and during labor she remained there until about 15 minutes before I delivered.
