I only know minimal information about Ferber so would it work just for naps? The situation is that ds has to be walked around/bounced/rocked to be put down for a nap. At night he falls asleep just fine after his last feeding, though. So would it work just for naps?
Also, he usually needs his paci to fall asleep. I know Ferber is a variation of CIO in which case a pacifier would fall out, and to me it just seems tortorous to start a new method and have him try to fall asleep without a paci. Anyone else have this issue?
Re: Anyone use Ferber just for naps, and another Ferber question.

We Ferberized early last week. We did it for night sleep as well as naps. DS would only sleep in his swing but managed to almost climb out of it
The swing was retired but he HATED his crib. Even in the swing he would only nap for 45 min at a time.
Night 1 was difficult but it got better by the 3rd night. It still took a few days before he would go down for his naps in the crib. Now I put him in his crib sleepy but awake at night and for naps. He rolls on his side and goes to sleep with no fussing, no crying. I would suggest buying the book Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems. It has made a huge difference in DSs sleep. He even napped for almost 2 hours this morning (the longest nap he's taken in months.) Good luck!
This is EXACTLY our issue. Night sleep is fine, and DS will fall asleep on his own. Naps are a whole other story. He needs rocking, etc. Except as of the last few days he's having trouble falling asleep that way, too. AND he needs the paci. Ugh. We're going to have to do something about it soon.
I would guess the best way to go about it would be to get rid of the paci first (but I'm not sure how one goes about that without CIO...maybe try replacing it with a toy in his crib or something?), and then work on the falling asleep on his own.
GL!
