Tell me again why you had hip surgery? I know we've talked about it before. My husband is actually going to see Anna's doctor at CHOP for his hips, but may need to find an adult doctor if he needs prolonged treatments where did you go? Thanks!

glad you're on the mend!

Re: ~*~ psychmussets ~*~

  • I was born with my hips turned in - not so bad that I needed surgery, but enough that I had casts on both legs for the greater part of my baby life and eventually had my own pair of *magic shoes*. I still wear custom orthodics. So my hips have never been normal. I guess the repetive motions of everyday life caused small tears in my cartilage of both hip joints (causes popping and clicking). Well I had a nasty dusting accident (yes, dusting) and I pulled my joint in such a way that it either made a tear worse or at least jarred the cartilage causing constant discomfort. They dislocated my hip,got in there and removed the part of cartilage that was causing the problem.

I went to my local ortho group (asoa). They're not like amazing or anything special, but they're good and I've been going there since I was 14 and pulled my hip flexer and needed reconstructive surgery on my ankle at the same time. I'm not accident prone, I'm just a hot mess lol. Anyway, they've treated me well over the years. If my hip problem was more complex, I probably would have gone to a specialist in Philly.

  • Oh and how's you're daughter doing? How did the arthrogram go? What's wrong with your husband's hips?

  • So, did you have hip dysplasia? Or I guess the opposite of hip dysplasia?

Her 1st arthrogram wasn't that positive. THe ortho had us preparing for a more invasive open surgery in september. But the follow up MRI showed that pressure from the femoral head actually forced the extra tissue out of the joint, and her femurs were in the correct position, so now we just have to hope that after that, the pressure from the femoral heads were able to start carving out the hip sockets - because that's the problem with hip dysplasia - she didn't have any sockets since the femurs developed outside of the pelvis.

DH has had hip problems his whole life. He had a slipped femoral epiphysis  when he was a kid and had a surgical repair. He's had hip problems ever since then. Most recently in his "good hip" which i think must be from years of overcompensating for his "bad" hip. Honestly, I wonder if he has a missed hip dysplasia, because it can be genetic and he just has so much pain sometimes (not to mention the worst posture). So, her doctor is going to see him. Mostly I think he's just really interested in seeing the repair from his earlier surgery, and I also think he's curious about the DDH also.

Anyway - 15 days until Anna's cast comes off. Hopefully the xray will show good news.
