My MIL is going to make another run at making us dipes. She had tried fitteds before but really didn't know what she was doing. I suggested AI2s as she just needs to make us shells-any recs on patterns? Also-she has a snap press but either doesn't know how to work it or it's crappy. Any recs on those?
TIA!

Yes, Kamsnaps for me too. I've been making newborn diapers (no, I am not expecting...) and adding snaps to snapless fitteds I've got off spots.
I heard Very Baby pattern is pretty awesome, but I've been just using free patterns from here and there.

You can use pretty much any pattern to make any type of diaper. They're all the same basic shape. For an AI2, you would just do two layers for the shell, at least one of which should be waterproof -- you could do PUL/microfleece, PUL/suedecloth, two layers of fleece, two layers of wool, etc. And then add some snaps on the back to snap in the soaker.
The Darling Diapers Unlimited pattern is a great choice if you're just getting started with diaper sewing, as it has GREAT instructions and tons of options. I also think the La Di Da pattern would make really good shells for AI2's. If you want something free, Rita's Rump Pocket or Cloth Revolution could be used for AI2's.
I use the snap pliers from KAM Snaps right now, and it works well, although I'm hoping to get a snap press soon as it's nice when you're doing lots of diapers.
