Infertility

Is it too late to start acupuncture?

I am nearing the end of my current cycle. AF is due within the next few days. Next cycle will be my first IVF cycle. I had a consult appt at a wellness clinic that specializes in acupuncture for fertility issues. She said I would start with an initial diagnostic appt, followed by four treatment sessions, and depending on the time left between then and my ET, ER perhaps other sessions in there as well.

She did say that on the day of ET they will meet me at the RE's office for a treatment prior to and following ET.  My question for you all, is it too late for me to start the acupuncture treatment, or is it still possible at this point for it to still benefit me for this IVF cycle? Thanks!

Re: Is it too late to start acupuncture?

  • I don't think so.  Just pre- and post-laser acu alone have been shown to increase impantation rates.  Click here to read about acu studies that my clinic has posted on their website - they are summaries - but if you have access to a journal database you can access the papers.

    Good luck! :)

I'm glad you asked this.  I've been trying to figure out if we should do accupuncture along with our upcoming IVF cycle.  It sounds like it might help.  We have MFI so I wasn't sure if it would be beneficial or not.

  • i don't think it's ever too late to start acupuncture!!!   i started it only a few weeks prior to my current ivf cycle and i am really enjoying it....if you can afford it, go for it...nothing to lose!!!
  • I wouldn't think it would be too late. Especially if you plan on doing it before and after ET.

I love acupuncture!! It's very relaxing and I saw a huge difference in my demeanor while on stims.

    Good luck!

  • From my understanding it is never too late!  Good luck.  I thought it made a difference for my in my last IVF cycle and I started maybe 2 weeks before I started stims.  I am starting again tomorrow for IVF #4 which I should start stimming for next week sometime.

  • Hi! I read your post while lurking and checking to see my former board...but no it's not too late! I started after I had started the bcp and shot regiment.  I went once a week while stiming, and I did an appointment the day before my ET.  Then on the day of I did a pre-treatment before my ET and after my ET. I think it helped a lot!! I know it help my stress levels and I also had her treat me for future heartburn and morning sickness just in case! I hope this helps!! If your in Colorado I used Heidi Alexander, and she was amazing!! Good Luck hope to see you on the other side soon!
