Cloth Diapering

One size pocket... I don't get it

My plan is to use prefolds w/ covers and newborn sized AIO's until our baby is big enough for one size pockets.  I got a Fuzzibunz one size pocket in the mail today, just to see how it compares to the newborn sized AIO's.

I honestly cannot believe how bulky it is!  It seems like there's just SO much extra fleece lining, and I just had to cram the insert in, all bunched up.  I can't imagine using this thing on the smaller settings.  Am I doing something wrong?

I use all one-size diapers.  There's definitely a lot of bulk, but I know it will go away as she grows.  Is the insert the correct one for your diaper?  I purchased 8 used FB made up of 3 different styles/versions/whatever-you-call-it.  The inserts are definitely different sizes - some are considerably wider than others, and won't fit in the slimmer diapers without bunching.

  • It doesn't seem like you'd even want to use this thing until it's on one of the biggest settings for 30 pound kids.  I know that you should expect cloth to be bulkier than disposable, but this is sort of ridiculous.

  • I don't find them to be THAT bulky.

    You get used to it.

Yep, I just got it out of the mail brand new, so I'm sure it's the right one.  And I'm using the newborn sized smaller insert. I set the elastic to the newborn suggested size (waist = 4, leg = 6) and can't even imagine stuffing this much material around a baby's bum and legs!

  • I won't judge the diaper until I can actually see it on my baby, though.  Maybe it's just the comparison to the newborn AIO's that's making it seem so bulky.  I guess this is why they say to try a bunch of brands / types to see what works for you before committing!

  • Meh, all cloth is bulky. It just becomes your normal :) And fwiw, I have the rise unsnapped all of the way on our bum genius pockets for my 4 month old. They really aren't much bulkier than her small bum genius aios.

  • I only use the one insert in my FB... and chances are, you may not need the FB pon the smallest setting. DD has never been even close to the smallest (but she's big.)

At 24 pounds and 30 inches, she's almost unbuttoned all the way  in the waist and pretty far in the legs. I find my FB to be one of the trimmer pockets to be honest.

It helps a bit with some of the others that have inserts that snap down (like BG) but even now I just fold over the end with my HH and Blueberries.

  • What do you guys do with all of the extra fleece lining at the opening where you stuff the insert in the pocket?  Seems like having it hanging out would cause leaks.  Do you bunch it up and stuff it in, or fold it under the lining?  Maybe when you was the diaper this part shrinks a bit?

  • I love the fit of my BG pockets on my tiny DD.  She looks super cute with the big fluffy butt.  I don't know about FBs because we only used PS, but I didn't have to fo anything to the lining with my BGs.  And we used them at 8 weeks when she had just barely outgrown her NB sposies.

I hated the OS but when I did use them I folded the fleece around the insert on the inside if that makes sense. If you are looking for less bulk try the FB perfect size. I love the way the smalls fit my skinny DS.

Thanks!  Was hoping to avoid the additional cost of perfect size, but glad to know that's a good option for cutting down on the bulk.
