Trying to Get Pregnant

Chewable Prenatals

Does anyone here take a chewable/gummy form?  If so which one do you take.  I need suggestions of ones I can maybe just buy at Target or a drug store.  Otherwise I might just make an appointment for the Dr. and ask her suggestions.

Any suggestions on which ones are good or not so good would be great!

Also when shopping any prenatals in general how do we know the brands have as much of the different vitamins that we need?  Is there any guide to the percentages the pill need to contain?

I take the VitaFusion gummy prenatals.  They're amazing.  I've seen them at walgreens, but I buy them online.

I do take an additional iron supplement also.

I don't know the answer to your question about guidelines, but I ran these by my doc and they got the okay from her so that's good enough for me for now. Good luck!

  • I am reading from people's reviews of the Vitafusion that they do not contain Iron or Calcium and do not contain the recommended dosage of Omega 3.....anyone know of any non swallow prenatals that contain all the essential vitamins?

here is a review(many people wrote about this topic)

However, I was extremely disappointed when I reviewed the amount per serving daily values for each ingredient. The three essential vitamins/minerals necessary for pregnant and lactating women are: FOLIC ACID (recommended daily value of 1,000 mcg by the Mayo Clinic,) IRON (recommended daily value of 27 mg by the Mayo Clinic) and OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS (of which DHA is one of) (recommended daily value of 250mg by the Mayo Clinic). In addition, CALCIUM is a needed nutrient for pregnant and nursing mothers, which the Mayo Clinic suggests 1,000mg daily value.

These "prental" gummy vitamins contain NO Calcium and NO Iron! In addition, they contain only 65mg of Omega-3 Fatty Acids, a significantly lower amount than recommended. It is inappropriate for this product to be marketed as a prenatal vitamin, when it is missing essential nutrients. And, I was kindly informed by other reviews that the Vitamin A found in this multivitamin is in the form of retinyl palmitate, which can be harmful to a developing fetus.

  • My DR gave me samples of Select-OB + DHA it is two sets of pills a natural berry falvored caplet that can be chewed or swallowed and a natural orange flavored DHA Gelcap.

  • Think I will use this guide to help me find a non swallow verson

Are all prenatal vitamins the same? No, they are not. Look for one that includes approximately:   400 mcg of folic acid400 IU of vitamin D200 to 300 mg of calcium70 mg of vitamin C3 mg of thiamine2 mg of riboflavin20 mg of niacine6 mcg of vitamin B1210 mg of vitamin E15 mg of zinc17 mg of iron

  • Well, that review seems to have a lot of it down. The biggest thing I've seen and been told by a couple docs is to have 2,000 mcg of Folic Acid (more than the 1,000 the Mayo Clinic recommends). I've been told 1,000 is a good maintenance dose, will cover just in case, but 2,000 is better and really what you want. I actually had a doc tell me when I asked her that if I can't get down a PNV to just take gummy vitamins and add on folic acid pills to get me to 2,000. That's the most important thing! And folic acid pills are TINY, smaller than a ball bearing and slippery!

I take a capsule now that I like because it's not chalky so I can get the horse pill down. But before I settled on it I went to my local Super Supplements (a vitamin store, not a drug store, just supplements) and they had a giant variety of prenatals, including several liquid possibilities. So a place like that might have more options. GL!

  • Yes the folic acid is the most important especially now with the new study that is out about it being really important to take a prenatal 3 months prior and get enough folic acid because combined with the mom's genes if you dont you are 7 times more at risk to have a child with autism.  I work in special ed so this is important to me to cover.
