Baby Names

Baby Name Board Virgin; Help me name my twin boys

We have scrapped our names and i need some help.  We were going to name our twin boys William Graham and Garrison Finn and call them both by middle names. We are now not too keen on the names.  William is still for sure but can be middle name.  This is after dh's late father.  I actually like the idea of calling him Will but dh is not sure. And I would like to keep garrison in there for baby b because it is after my dad. Names that dh likes are Sam and Max but I think they are too common.  I would like something unique but not crazy and trying to stay away from surnames.

  • So you just don't like Graham and Finn anymore?  Or you don't like the way the sound those names sound with the first names?

  • We don't like Graham and Finn.  And this was what we would be calling them.  I like the idea of Finn but it just keeps rubbing me the wrong way.  And I was never "in love" with Graham but DH loved it.  I wanted Milo or Arlo and DH nixed both.

  • If the middle name is what you are planning on calling them, why not just use them as first names? It makes it so much less confusing for the child (and their teachers!) in the long run.

You know, I really hate it when people try to make that argument. My dad, grandfather, uncle, and cousin all were/are called by their middle names. None of them ever had a problem with it. If you want to call your sons by their middle names, go for it.

  • I completely agree about calling them by middle name but DH was dead set on a son with the first name William because his dad died 2 months ago.  However, he did not want to call him William.  Go figure!  He is coming around now about either calling him Will or making William the middle name.

I was wondering this also.  I think Finn is cute, but it seems more like a nn.  I like the names Oliver and Henry as first names.

ETA: not because I think calling them by their middle names is confusing, I just think if you like the name why not use it as a first name?

  • I love Sam and Max and don't think that either are overly popular. I would think there'd be just as many Wills as Sams.

  • I like the names suggested so far. Here's a thought - if your DH isn't crazy about Will, what about Liam as a nn for William?

I agree with this. I have always gone by my middle name and it has been a pain in my ass my entire life. Now that I am married I am finally going to change it! Do you know how annoying it is when traveling or at the bank, trying to prove you are who you are when your name appears 2 different ways in forms, or checks, or tests? In school it's the worst.

I really don't have any other advice other than that :)
