Cloth Diapering

First fluffy bum pic!

This is our first fluffy bum! My son is just over 1 month old, but his umbilical cord stump just fell off a couple of days ago, so we're just now finally getting to use our cloth diapers!

Is this what it's supposed to look like? I've gotten so used to the slim disposables that we've been in up until now, his cloth diaper looks HUGE!

  • He's adorable, congratulations!!

And to answer your question - yes, Cds are fluffier than sposies.  Sposies have chemicals that absorb the urine - cloth just relies on the amount of materials needed to absorb the amount of fluid.  I'm so used to LOs fluffy butt that when I pick her up for a bath or when we did sposies for a trip it took me by surprise - she has no tush!

  • Aww your boy is such a cutie.

Yeah, cloth diapers are much... fluffier than disposables. What are you using underneath the cover? A fitted? prefold? Some options are trimmer than others.

I like my Ai2s with microchamois as they are trimmer than some of my other diapers. Sized diapers are also smaller (small, medium large vs OS).

  • Aww! DS's first fluffy bum was also covered by a Meadow Thirsties wrap!

  • Congrats!  He's a cutie.  I love that shirt, too.

Yes, the CDs look huge on a newborn bum.  DS was 6 lbs 7 oz, and his orange-edge GMD prefolds came down to his knees.  It still seems like he outgrew them amazingly fast.

  • Thanks for the responses, everyone!

To answer your questions, he's wearing a Osocozy premium prefold (purple edge) underneath a thirsties duo wrap. I have 36 prefolds in this size, which will work for a while, but I'm a little scared that he's going to outgrow them really fast. I got the purple edge because it was "infant" size rather than "newborn" size... I knew this meant they might be too big in the beginning, but I hoped it also meant that he would be able to use them for longer. When I close the prefold with a snappi, I feel like I'm pulling it really tight against his skin and there's not a lot of room leftover for growing.

I hope I don't have to buy an entirely new set of prefolds within the next week or so!
