Hate superflous plastic. Fold down rise snaps irritate baby's belly. Snap down rise snaps irritate baby's chunky thighs. Would rather just have sized dipes.
Generally speaking, I've been a fold-down-rise girl. But I love my B4's and how they just have the one rise snap (not like six going down the front.) So they adjust three ways then - one snap, fold down rise and rise fully up. I like that system.
But sized diapers also make a lot of sense, especially once your baby is too big for 'OS' diapers... my guy is gonna be on of those needing XL toddler diapers just for the rise... he's so long. I line dry my TT and B4s to keep them huge.

TBH I haven't thought about this too much, but it irritates me when I'm pulling a diaper into position and the rise unsnaps, so I went with fold-down. The fold-down rise is a bit more of a pain to get into position when S is feeling squirmy, but not much; it's more of a nuisance to have to fix the snap if it unfastens.
Are you buying a pattern to make your own? If you are, I would recommend buying a pattern with fold over snaps. It's easy to figure out where the snaps go for a snap down rise, but a little bit trickier to evenly place the snaps for a fold over rise (but still not hard). You can do both with one pattern.

Yes, I'm planning to buy a pattern. Do you have one you recommend?
I've never bought a pattern, but I've used Rita's Rump (which I've modified over time) and Sprout Snap patterns. Both are free downloads.
Have you checked out Diaper Sewing Divas? There is tons of good info there for sewing diapers.
I haven't checked out that site, I'll do that. Right now I've been making the DDU free newborn pattern, but I want to switch my focus to diapers that will last a little longer.
I thought of another free pattern...Quick Snap Flap Wrap. It's a funky prefold that is super quick to make. I think there is a tutorial for adding elastic at DSD.

Hadn't thought of that, thanks!
