Has anyone had - or known of a friend who had a hernia while pregnant?
I know there are several different types, and it can make a big difference. I have an Inguinal hernia - groin area - in the crease of my thigh. I have to get a surgical evaluation today because it has been continually getting worse as I've continued to gain weight with my pregnancy. I'm athletic, and usually very active, so I've only gained 10 pounds, but its definitely made a difference.
I just wanted to know if they were considered High risk - had any complications - or had to go on any sort of bed rest because of the hernia.
Thanks guys - I'm just a little concerned about having a hernia, and potentially having to go under the knife.

Re: Hernia while Pregnant = High Risk Pregnancy?
Today was a complete whirlwind - I went in fully expecting them to say that having any surgery right now at 24 weeks would be way too risky. Turns out I was wrong. Since my hernia has been gradually getting larger, the Dr. said it would be best to do surgery under a timed and controlled environment, and eliminate the threat of a strangulated hernia, instead of letting it go and potentially having to have an emergency surgery that we wouldn't be prepared for. AND in the case that it would become an emergency, they would most likely take the baby out right away by C section because I would be extremely sick from having a strangulated bowel.
While not exactly what I was hoping for, I'm sure baby and I will come through just fine. I'm beyond terrified of having to have surgery (first time for me) but I'm even more worried about my baby during the procedure. Thankfully my little boy will have his own set of labor and delivery nurses and doctors monitoring him before, during, and after.
