Trying to Get Pregnant

possibly pregnant

just wanted to know how common implantation bleeding is? i read about it and assumed it would be something i would see. i was due for my period yesterday and have not gotten it or seen any spotting. i was planning on buying a test today and taking it tomorrow (which happens to be my birthday too!) so i don't know if i should be depending on seeing the spotting or anything.  please advise. thanks!

Re: possibly pregnant

  • From what I hear, most women do not get implantation bleeding. Taking a test is the only way to know.

    This.

From what I have read it is actually pretty rare.

  • Implantation bleeding is very rare, so you could still be pregnant without having seen any.  Good luck!
  • Most of the time you won't know it is implantation bleeding until after the fact. This is because you can spot anytime during a cycle. I had implantation bleeding on my bfp cycle, but only knew that for sure after I got my bfp and looked at my chart. The spotting happened to coincide with my temp dip on 6DPO. The only way to know if you are pregnant is by taking a test.

    HTH and good luck!

    1st BFP- March 2011. Natural MC @ 8 weeks
2nd BFP- July 2011.  Chemical Pregnancy
3rd BFP- Sep 2011. My beautiful son was born May 2012.
    4th BFP-August 2014- Due May 12, 2015

  • It does happen, although it's pretty rare. Implantation usually occurs 6-7DPO. But spotting can be caused by so many things, only a test will tell.

Good luck tomorrow! And happy birthday!

  • It's very uncommon and can only be sort of confirmed with a BFP. There's no way to know even with a BFP if it was implantation or spotting due to normal fluctuations in hormones.

You possibly ovulated late. If you're not pregnant, I'd recommend charting your temps to get to know your cycles and reading TCOYF. There's a helpful link at the top of the board, too.

And my birthday is tomorrow as well. Hope you have a wonderful birthday :)

Actually, implantation occurs from 7-10DPO, but can occur as early as 5DPO and as late as 12DPO.

  • I had no spotting during my pregnancy with Mick.  Rather than it being an indicator that you might be pregnant, I think it is more of a "well, even if you bled a little, you might still be pregnant" but I wouldn't be looking for it as a sign.

You'd be shocked how much an OB/gyn doesn't know. Sheena's right. Google it.

  • Implantation bleeding is only something you can "diagnose" after the fact. Meaning after you get a BFP. If you do in fact get a BFP this cycle, then it could have been implantation bleeding/spotting. It also could be random bleeding/spotting due to the surge of progesterone you got after O, not necessarily having to do with pregnancy. Or it could be due to lots of other things or nothing. Good luck!

Sheena's right.  6-7dpo is in a perfect world where we all O on CD 14 and have 28 day cycles.  As we all know, it's not a perfect world.

  • I didn't say she wasn't right. I said "usually." I didn't say always. Depending on your reading, it can actually happen as early as 4 DPO. When I say usually, I mean "on average."

Anyway, I was just being snarky. Sorry!

  • If you are late you should test regardless of whether or not there has been any spotting. Huh?
