Trying to Get Pregnant

Should I worry?

I'm sorry... this is kind of all over the place...Let me know if it doesn't make sense... lol

I hate to sound like one of those girls that doesn't know anything, but just bear with me...

This is our first month TTC and I was pretty sure we missed the window. I was just timing using calenders and I knew when I was fertile (not by temping or anything) I have Middelschmerz, which is painful ovulation, so I can usually guess. I'm going to look into tempting this next month. Anyway, since I think we didn't do the deed (Not sure of the acronym for baby making sex? BSM?? I dunno...lol) the right time this month (just didn't happen that week...) So I was thinking it was going to be a miracle if I ended up pregnant this month. Well, I was three days late. I'm never late. Early sometimes, yes, but never late. I went to the store and got a hpt to take this morning with fmu and then woke up this morning cramping really bad and AF had started. My whole thing is that I have been cramping for the last week and wondered if it was implantation cramping. I've been reading a lot (too much) the last few weeks and now I'm wondering if it was a chemical pregnancy. Since I didn't take a hpt and don't know if I was pregnant, I guess I'll never be able to tell, but I was pretty upset this morning, not just because I started, but because I was late and it's hard not to wonder if something went wrong. I know it's past now and I can just try next month, but I was wondering if someone might be able to tell me anything?

Re: Should I worry?

  • No, you should not worry.

-You'll quickly learn to never use the word "never" when you begin TTC.  Just because you've never been late before doesn't mean you'll never be late.  Each month is a new month...you can O a day or three later/earlier each month which will make your period later/earlier.

-Calendars and O pain are not accurate ways of determining O.  Temping (and using OPks and checking CM) are much better.

    -We use the word sex.

-Did you read the Newbie Link at the top of the page?

  • You could have been 3 days late because you ovulated several days later than normal.  That will stretch out your cycle longer than normal.  There would be no way to know for sure what exactly happened without the complete charting but if you're fairly certain you missed your fertile window, then it most likely was a delay in ovulation.

  • Was this your first month off of birth control? If so, your body is probably just trying to find its normal cycle length.

When I was on BCP my cycles were 28 days, but now that I'm off, they have been consistently 25 day cycles. When I got my first period off of BCP and my cycle was shorter than I expected (25 days as opposed to 28 days) I had similar concerns to what you are having. I was wondering "why am I 3 days early?". However, once my cycles regularly started after 25 days I realized that was just my body's natural time-frame without BCP.

    TTC #1 since 4/2011. Cycle 1 = BFN. Cycle 2 = BFN. Cycle 3 = BFP 6/28. CP 7/2. Cycle 4 = TTA. Cycle 5 = BFN. Started progesterone. Cycle 6 = Disaster. Cycle 7 = Progesterone. BFN Cycle 8 = BFN. Cycle 9 = BFN. Cycle 10 = BFP 1/1/12. C/P 1/8/12. Cycle 11 = BFP 2/3. Stick! Due 10/15/12. Baby girl arrived via c-section on 10/10/12 after 20 hours of labor. Welcome my love!

Nothing to worry about. What I've learned in the almost 1 year of TTC is that nothing is "always" or "never". I thought I had completely regular cycles until last cycle when it was 37 days. It happens. I doubt it was a CP.

  • Thanks ladies. It's hard to not worry when it's your first cycle. I was feeling pretty crappy today (physically and emotionally - even though I didn't think I was pregnant until the past few days) No, I've never been on birth control, so it doesn't have anything to do with that. I know it's annoying to hear, but I guess there's always next month... lol Thanks again. =)

  • Honestly, it was probably because your ovulation was later then usual. I did have a CP without a BFP. Only reason I found out was because my period was super heavy, red, lots of clotting and ten days long. I went to the doc after about 6 days and they did bloodwork which confirmed it for me. So, I guess its possible, but probably unlikely unless theres some reason which would lead you to think this.
