WWYD?

I have twin boys on the way and my DD will be 22 months when they arrive. We have narrowed it down to two strollers, but really can't decide what would be best. DD has never been a stroller baby and we barely used the stroller we have for her, so we are trying to decide whether to get the City Select Mini with a buggy board for DD or the Valco with a joey seat? Like I said, we don't use her stroller very often, so I don't want to get a valco that will just go to waste, but I'm also not sure that she will ride on the buggy board all the time without needing a seat once in a while. What would you do?

  • I would go with valco if u ever plan on going out with all 3 alone, you may need a secure place for your oldest. My 3 year old still has to sit down some of the time, and when I use a boogie board , he hops on off on off so much it takes forever to get somewhere. I love my valco!

  • 22mo is WAY too young to use a ride on board- it would not be safe.  And keep in mind- you might not use a stroller much now- but when you have 2 babies in a stroller you can't just run off to chase your 2y/o - which WILL happen.... so having a place for your toddler to sit and be strapped in is a must IMO if you plan to leave the house much.

i have the valco trimode + toddler seat and it was a God send the first year... once DS1 was 3y/o we used the hitch hiker board instead - but it was worth every penny to have the valco that first year.

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

We had thought about that, but we are now thinking about using a convertible car seat for at least one of the babies so the snap n go is not going to work.

HORRIBLE idea. really - get to infant seats for them.... there are just too many reasons to list why.

Really, why? I haven't heard this before.

This!  Mine are 18m apart and I rarely use my triple.

  • Okay....are you in a metropolitan area?  Will you be using the stroller everyday?  Will you be getting all three out on your own?

Goldie does know everything about strollers-she is our guru.  I believe she was out everyday, a lot of the day with all three on her own.

It really depends on what your needs are.....

To this day, I have not been out on my own with all three-except a book fair at Emerson's school.  Terrible but, true.

When they are little they DO need the infant seats...even just for the first four or five months.  There is no way you can carry two infants without the infant seats. There really isn't any question about this with twins.

  • i don't think any mom of twins would tell you that it's a good idea to use a convertible seat from the start.

i'm guessing you used an infant seat with your first child, no?  Just the simple fact that you can get the baby in/out without waking him/her up.... and multiple that x2.  The fact that you can put one down (in the seat) on the ground while you put the other one into the car... or buckle in your older child.... or chase after your older child who decided to run away from your car....  if you have an infant in your arms - it makes things 100x's more difficult.

Gibby was huge and i had a hard time carrying him in the infant seat after 4months- but i made sure to keep at least one in the infant seat b/c it made life so much easier... Gray was in it until 12mo thank God.   It was a huge PITA when i had to carry Gibby in my arms and Gray in the seat at the same time - was so much easier when i had them both in infant seats.

I do leave the house almost every day with all 3 - and have since the beginning.... it's totally doable- if you have the right equipment :)

Ditto this.  There are plenty of areas to skimp on, but not getting a second infant seat is not one of them.  I kept my girls in their infant seats as long as I possibly could (about a year for one DD, 15ish months for the other) because it was so much easier that way!  It is so much easier strapping them in their carseats in the house when they are little and I didn't have a toddler to deal with either.  And being able to transfer then from the car to the DSNG to the car and into the house without taking them out of the seat is priceless, particularly if they are sleeping.

Like PP, I would recommend getting a DSNG for the moment and I also highly recommend an Ergo or similar type of carrier.  I regularly wear my DDs on my back still and it's quite comfortable (the one i wear the most is 25ish lbs...my other DD is a little heavier and it's fine wearing her too, she just doesn't like it quite as much as my smaller DD).  This way you could put your DD on your back and push your boys in the stroller and everyone is contained!

I'm not in a metropolitan area. I barely use the stroller I have now for DD, but I know my needs will change once I have to wrangle all three. I am not a SAHM and DH and I usually are together when we go out, so I most likely will not be taking the three out alone a lot at all.
