So LO started STTN at about 11 weeks old. We moved him to his own room a few weeks ago and started doing CIO for naps bc he was refusing to nap. Well, he seemed able to sooth himself to sleep, but the problem was he was not STAYING asleep for more than 30 mins for a nap and he started waking up several times at night. So I started swaddling him again for naps and putting him down drowsy and now he's sleeping 1-3.5 hours for naps! BUT -- he's still not sleeping through the night. I ordered a woombi so I'm hoping that helps, but do you think I should move him back to our room. He was sleeping in the PNP next to our bed before we moved him. I'm desperate for a solid nights sleep like he was before! TIA!
Re: Help getting 4.5 month-old to sleep at night
Just go with it. You cannot force your LO to sleep through even if he did it before. He needs to adjust to his crib, and he might be enjoying the 4MW as well right now. We're ALL desperate for sleep, you aren't alone. However, forcing your LO to CIO so early isn't going to help either of you. He might scream for hours while you cry listening to it, and then all you'll get is an overtired baby- which, by the way, is MUCH harder to deal with than a sleepy baby.
I sometimes have to help my girl to sleep- hold her sideways with a paci til she KOs, then put her down. Other times, I can put her down drowsy with a paci and she'll KO on her own, but it's hit or miss. It's not a sure thing. Just because she can do it a few times doesn't mean it should be expected of her full time.
I'm not sure your LO will appreciate the woombi, especially if he's rolling. Once babies can roll, they enjoy their freedom and will fuss MORE if they're tied up.
The only thing I can say is to get to him before he wakes up too much so he dream feeds and you can just put him back down after. I've even been known to skip a diaper change at night if she was still sleepy when I came in the room. Still sleepy= feed, but no change because that wakes her up more. All the wake= diaper change and feeding.
