Food Allergy

Another elimination diet question...

Hi ladies,

My DD appears to be lactose allergy, I have eliminated all milk products from my diet, but in other posts I was reading that many of you are also taking out soy, nuts, etc...Do I need to eliminate those from my diet too? When I am BFing DD she gets a little rash on her face and head so I'm guessing there is still something that I'm eating that she's allergic to. Any advice would be great! TIA!

  • The way my doc explained it is soy breaks down in the body in much the same way that milk does, so often if you are milk allergic you are also soy allergic.

  • 50-60% of people allergic to milk are also allergic to soy (my son is). Nuts are highly allergenic so that's why many ppl take that out of their diet also .  If your baby is still reacting, i would take eggs out also.. or just go crazy and remove all top 8 allergens.

  • What many people do is eliminate all top 8 allergens for a few weeks and then slowly add them back in to see what is causing it.  I started out just taking out milk and then took out more and more things.  I wish I would have just started taking out everything and adding them back in.  Months later I'm finding things that are irritating LO but were not as dramatic as milk so it wasn't as easy to notice.  Good luck!
