Registry Questions!

Hi everyone... I have just a few questions regarding products and registering :)

1.  Baby Monitor:  We are interested in one of the new video color monitors or the old fashioned no video Sony Babycall Moniter.  Are the video ones really worth the extra money?

2.  Diaper pails:  We are looking at the Diaper Genie - Playtex Elite on with the refills for odor control.  Is this necessary to own?

3.  Bottles:  What kind of bottle brands worked best for you?  We have Playtex Ventures and Gerber Clearviews written down ... just curious if anyone has better suggestions to first try out.

4.  Humidifer:  What kind works best?  Are these necessary?

5.  Exersaucer:  Should we just register for one at first?  Or register for two?

6.  Umbrella Strollers:  Should we even bother picking up 2 of these?  They are priced at $19.99 each at BRU.  I read somewhere that it's nice to have these sometimes instead of lugging the big double stoller with you.

7.  Swaddle wraps:  What kind works the best?  I have read that Halo sleepsacks are nice and that

Thanks for any recommendations!! We are first time parents and have lots of questions especially with twins on the way :)

Re: Registry Questions!

  • Swaddle wraps---The Miracle Blanket

We also love Aden & Anais Swaddle Blankets because they are so big and perfect for swaddling. They have been a lifesaver the past few nights with our 3 wk old DD. I suggest getting the original blankets rather than the A & A "for Target" ones that are cheaper and found at Target. GL!

Hi everyone... I have just a few questions regarding products and registering :)

    1.  Baby Monitor:  We are interested in one of the new video color monitors or the old fashioned no video Sony Babycall Moniter.  Are the video ones really worth the extra money?

We have a Sony Babycall.  It works fine for us.  The boys are in the room beside us and we don't use it at night because we can hear them without it.

    2.  Diaper pails:  We are looking at the Diaper Genie - Playtex Elite on with the refills for odor control.  Is this necessary to own?

We bought the Deckor (sp?) diaper pail.  It come with special bags but also fits regular (cheap) long garbage bags.  It works fine for us.

    3.  Bottles:  What kind of bottle brands worked best for you?  We have Playtex Ventures and Gerber Clearviews written down ... just curious if anyone has better suggestions to first try out.

I'm breastfeeding but when we had to supplement we used the Evenflo glass bottles.  If made one of my boys gassy.  I bought a few Nuk bottles and the gassiness wasn't as bad.  I'd buy a few different types and see what works best for your little ones.

    4.  Humidifer:  What kind works best?  Are these necessary?

     Don't own one.

    5.  Exersaucer:  Should we just register for one at first?  Or register for two?

We have one.  Some babies like them,  some don't.  Looking back one exersaucer and one jumperroo would have been nice.

    6.  Umbrella Strollers:  Should we even bother picking up 2 of these?  They are priced at $19.99 each at BRU.  I read somewhere that it's nice to have these sometimes instead of lugging the big double stoller with you.

We haven't bought any yet.  You can't use an umbrella stroller with a newborn so I would wait a bit for one.  For when they are little, two baby carriers might be nice.  We always used our double stroller when we went out.

    7.  Swaddle wraps:  What kind works the best?  I have read that Halo sleepsacks are nice and that

We just used large blankets to swaddle them. We use the Halo sleep sacks (starting at 4 or 5 months) and we like them.

Thanks for any recommendations!! We are first time parents and have lots of questions especially with twins on the way :)

    Good luck. :)

Hi everyone... I have just a few questions regarding products and registering :)

    1.  Baby Monitor:  We are interested in one of the new video color monitors or the old fashioned no video Sony Babycall Moniter.  Are the video ones really worth the extra money?

We've got 2 Angelcare monitors but I'm looking into getting a video monitor because, since we lowered the cribs, they can see EVERYTHING.  That means we can't go in to check on one without risking the other seeing us.  A video monitor will be nice to see if the cry was something that needs attending, or just something in their sleep. It's not cool to go in and find the one that was crying sound asleep but have a second set of eyes saying "hey, since you're in here, let's play!"

    2.  Diaper pails:  We are looking at the Diaper Genie - Playtex Elite on with the refills for odor control.  Is this necessary to own?

We had a Diaper Genie and got rid of it after 2 months in favor of a Diaper Champ that can take regular trash bags. The refills were just stupid expensive. Like $15/mo or something.   I'd rather spend that on something not used to contain poo.  :)  We take out the diaper pail so often, the same level of odor control isn't needed as it is for a singleton where it can go awhile without being emptied.

    3.  Bottles:  What kind of bottle brands worked best for you?  We have Playtex Ventures and Gerber Clearviews written down ... just curious if anyone has better suggestions to first try out.

We started with glass Evenflos that leaked everywhere and had terrible issues with nipples collapsing.  We switched to Dr. Brown's because of reflux and couldn't be happier.  I'd skip the 4oz bottles and go straight to the 8oz bottles.  They use the 4oz bottles for such a short time and it's way easier to tandem bottle feed with long bottles.

    4.  Humidifer:  What kind works best?  Are these necessary?

    We didn't have one.

    5.  Exersaucer:  Should we just register for one at first?  Or register for two?

We have one exersaucer and one jumparoo.  It's fun to have a variety and to be able to rotate activities.

    6.  Umbrella Strollers:  Should we even bother picking up 2 of these?  They are priced at $19.99 each at BRU.  I read somewhere that it's nice to have these sometimes instead of lugging the big double stoller with you.

I wouldn't go that route just yet.  Most of us have started with a Double Snap and Go and then evaluated stroller needs from there.  Also for not too much more than the cost of two umbrella strollers, you may be able to pick up a good lightweight SBS like a Combi on CL.

    7.  Swaddle wraps:  What kind works the best?  I have read that Halo sleepsacks are nice and that

I loved the Aden + Anais swaddle blankets.  My babies didn't like and/or could escape the velcro SwaddleMes. Lots of people also love the Miracle Blanket.

Thanks for any recommendations!! We are first time parents and have lots of questions especially with twins on the way :)

  • 1.  Baby Monitor:  We are interested in one of the new video color monitors or the old fashioned no video Sony Babycall Moniter.  Are the video ones really worth the extra money? We have the Sony Babycall and I love it!  Never missed having the video, so it's not worth it in my opinion.

    2.  Diaper pails:  We are looking at the Diaper Genie - Playtex Elite on with the refills for odor control.  Is this necessary to own? I just used a small metal (ie no odor absorption) trashcan with a petal lid.  I line it with a plastic grocery bag, and empty it at the end of the day, and spray with Lysol.  It was $13 at Ikea.

    3.  Bottles:  What kind of bottle brands worked best for you?  We have Playtex Ventures and Gerber Clearviews written down ... just curious if anyone has better suggestions to first try out. We used the Playtex Dropins = no bottle washing.  The Target brand dropins were really reasonable.

    4.  Humidifer:  What kind works best?  Are these necessary?  Our Vicks Vaporizer with the vapor oil was a lifesaver when they had colds in the winter.  Again, the cheap under $20 model worked just fine.

    5.  Exersaucer:  Should we just register for one at first?  Or register for two?  We've gotten by just fine with one Exersaucer (borrowed from a friend), and a Jenny Jump Up.  This combo cut down on bulky equiptment laying around.  Try to get these used though.  They are super easy to clean and sanitize and ypu can get really good deals on them at consignment shops and on CL.

    6.  Umbrella Strollers:  Should we even bother picking up 2 of these?  They are priced at $19.99 each at BRU.  I read somewhere that it's nice to have these sometimes instead of lugging the big double stoller with you.  We have one and a baby carrier.  This combo worked nice whether DH and I were together or separate.

    7.  Swaddle wraps:  What kind works the best?  I have read that Halo sleepsacks are nice and that I loved our Halo Sleep sacks!  We got a set from the hospital and I picked up another set to have on hand too.  We usually got by with two sets in each size.

  • [1.  Baby Monitor: YES they are worth the money

    2.  Diaper pails:  We are looking at the Diaper Genie - Playtex Elite on with the refills for odor control. I have this and love it.  Expensive inserts but worth not smelling poop. We have one upstairs and downstairs.

    3.  Bottles:  Dr. Browns.  Get a few of each and try them all out

    4.  Humidifer:  Vicks. Mine were sick a ton in the winter and every time the Dr asked us to put it on. We had to go get one. We have the one you put the vicks in to help clear the stuffy noses.

    5.  Exersaucer: One exosaucer one jumper here.  Should have gotten 2 of each if we would have had room

    6.  Umbrella Strollers: ABSOLUTELY

    7.  Swaddle wraps: Didnt work for us

    GOOD LUCK!!

  • Baby Monitor: summer infant best video monitor (target) it pans and zooms and you can add additional cameras but we haven't yet. We love it!

Diaper Pail: we ended up getting a regular trash can with a push button pop up top that takes regular bags because we got sick of the diaper pail we got from target.. I can't remember the name of it, but it took baking soda refills.

We have a humidifer just from target but haven't used it yet, so no real advice on that.

We have the playtex Ventaire's and love them. The girls have never been too gassy, and seem to do great on them. I've also heard great things about dr. browns bottles but I think they are slightly more expensive. You  may want to wait and use what you have and see how they work before you buy another kind.

Someone gifted us 2 umbrella strollers, which obviously we haven't used yet since the girls aren't big enough, but when they are big enough I forsee us using them very little, since its easier to push around one big stroller then 2 little ones, unless of course we are on outings with more then 1 adult. Either way in the beginning you are going to want some kind of double stroller that you can clip their car seats into, either the DSNG or another type of double stroller that takes car seats since they can't use the umbrella strollers for a little while.

Swaddle wraps - absolutely hands down the miracle blanket. We have 4 of them right now, I want to get more, I LOVE them.

Hi everyone... I have just a few questions regarding products and registering :)

    1.  Baby Monitor:  We are interested in one of the new video color monitors or the old fashioned no video Sony Babycall Moniter.  Are the video ones really worth the extra money?

We got a Sony Babycall as a hand-me-down, and liked it for the first few months when we only needed it for a few hours after we put them to bed in our room in cosleepers  before we went to sleep. But, at 4 months, when we separated them into their own rooms, we wanted one device that could monitor both rooms, so we got a video monitor. We have a camera in each room and it feeds into one receiver. It's the Summer Infant Sleek and Secure. It has a few bugs, but overall it works really well and we're happy with it. I think the video is worth it.

    2.  Diaper pails:  We are looking at the Diaper Genie - Playtex Elite on with the refills for odor control.  Is this necessary to own?

We love our Diaper Genie's. Definitely recommend.

    3.  Bottles:  What kind of bottle brands worked best for you?  We have Playtex Ventures and Gerber Clearviews written down ... just curious if anyone has better suggestions to first try out.

We started with Avents but they leaked all.the.time. We then moved to Dr. Brown's and never looked back. There are a bunch of parts, but cleaning them never bothered me, and we don't even use our dishwasher.

    4.  Humidifer:  What kind works best?  Are these necessary? You'll probably need a humidifier at some point if your LOs get a cold, but I'd wait on purchasing that until you need it.

    5.  Exersaucer:  Should we just register for one at first?  Or register for two? Register for an exersaucer and jumperoo.

    6.  Umbrella Strollers:  Should we even bother picking up 2 of these?  They are priced at $19.99 each at BRU.  I read somewhere that it's nice to have these sometimes instead of lugging the big double stoller with you. We don't have any single strollers, although I might get a cheap one soon. Keep in mind that you probably won't be able to use an umbrella stroller (at least a cheap unbrella stroller that doesn't recline) until they are about 7 months old. If I were you, I'd wait to see what you think at that point.

    7.  Swaddle wraps:  What kind works the best?  I have read that Halo sleepsacks are nice and that We used miracle blankets for swaddling until 4.5 months and then switched easily to halo sleepsacks. We LOVED the miracle blankets. They were the only blankets that my little Houdini's couldn't escape from.

Thanks for any recommendations!! We are first time parents and have lots of questions especially with twins on the way :)

Hi everyone... I have just a few questions regarding products and registering :)

    1.  Baby Monitor:  We are interested in one of the new video color monitors or the old fashioned no video Sony Babycall Moniter.  Are the video ones really worth the extra money?  We  have the Lorex monitor with a second camera.  It is color picture, can scan up to 4 rooms, takes pictures (we have not tried this yet), and allows you to talk to baby.  We love it!  The only downfall is that the battery life is not wonderful.  It has a 3-4 hour battery off the base.

    2.  Diaper pails:  We are looking at the Diaper Genie - Playtex Elite on with the refills for odor control.  Is this necessary to own?  We just use a regular metal trash can.  We take out the trash so frequently, that it doesn't pay for us to have a diaper pail.

    3.  Bottles:  What kind of bottle brands worked best for you?  We have Playtex Ventures and Gerber Clearviews written down ... just curious if anyone has better suggestions to first try out.  We use Dr. Browns for every day.  We have 24 bottles and think it is very helpful to have enough so you only have to run the dishwasher once a day.  We also have 6 playtex drop in that we use for when we are out or travel. We have 4munchkin dishwasher baskets that fit all the parts.

    4.  Humidifer:  What kind works best?  Are these necessary?  We don't have one.

    5.  Exersaucer:  Should we just register for one at first?  Or register for two?  We have one exersaucer and one jumperoo.

    6.  Umbrella Strollers:  Should we even bother picking up 2 of these?  They are priced at $19.99 each at BRU.  I read somewhere that it's nice to have these sometimes instead of lugging the big double stoller with you.  We have the BJCS.  The twins are still in their car seats so an umbrella stroller would not be helpful here.  Something we may consider later.

    7.  Swaddle wraps:  What kind works the best?  I have read that Halo sleepsacks are nice and that.  Halos are gerat but your babies have to be old enough for them.  Ours aren't big enough yet.  We use aiden adn anais receiving blankets to swaddle.  We love them even though they are a tad expensive.  We have a 4 pack for each child and its enough.

We are first time parents also so I understand how difficult it is trying to figure out all these new baby items.  Things that we love:  MAM pacifiers (the twins spit them out less than the soothies and gumdrops), 2 infant boppy pillows (those are the round ones without the hole in the middle.  We tandem feed in them and use them multiple times a day), 2 bouncers (register for the cheaper fisher price ones), a rock n play (the twins preferred to sleep in these over the pack n play in our room, plus it is great if your babies have reflux), cloth diapers (to use as burp cloths.  we like the kushies), we have 2 snugabunny swings (we like them because they plug into the wall), get nightgowns and zipping sleep and plays for overnight (we like the circo brand (target) and gerber), we also have the space saver high chairs but have only used them once..  Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for any recommendations!! We are first time parents and have lots of questions especially with twins on the way :)
