RP: OBGYN West Allis

I currently see Dr Bear and have been happy with the care I receive for the most part, but would like to try to find an OB that is less busy.  The 2 hour wait for appointments and the rushed appointments are annoying. Can anyone recommend an OB that delivers at West Allis Memorial?  I am not pregnant, but delivered my son there and would like to deliver future children there as it's close to our house and I had a good experience.  I would prefer that the OB work for Advanced Healthcare as that's where my primary doctor is, but will see someone outside of there. Also, has anyone had any experience with Joby George, Stephen McAvoy, James Dolan or Rebecca Mokrohisky?  They practice closer to me than Dr Bear. Any ideas would be appreciated! TIA!

Re: RP: OBGYN West Allis

  • I am so glad that you posted this!  I see Stephen McAvoy right now and he and his staff are amazing!  I make the 90 minute drive from the south side of Racine to see him.  And when he is not in the office, his staff is so supportive and take the time to listen and always call me back.

Dr. McAvoy is the first doctor out of almost 10 doctors I've seen that diagnosed my endo.  And he is so kind, gentle, tender and compassionate.  My friend recommended him to me and we always laugh that if he wasn't married and we weren't married... :)  (Kidding of course!)

He'll take all the time in the world with you.  And many times, he is the one who personally calls me back when I call with a question.

I've also heard that Dr Bear has horrible bedside manner.

    Good luck in your search!

  • Thanks for the response!  I scheduled an appointment with Dr McAvoy before you posted this and now I'm glad I did!

Dr Bear's bedside manner was fine, he just wasn't very informative and didn't include me in decisions.  With my son he did an episiotomy without even telling me.  The nurse was the one that told me when I asked how much tearing there was.

I'm glad to hear I made a good choice in switching!

  • I saw two doctors from this practice- https://physiciansofobgyn.com/ - Dr. Barr and Dr. Moore - and both were fabulous.  Their office is at WAM as well.

  • Sorry this is pretty late, but I just saw Dr McAvoy last week.  I liked him a lot.  He had good bedside manner and made sure all of my questions were answered.  I waited about 10 minutes in the waiting room and then the receptionist called the nurse (without my prompting, she just noticed I had been waiting) and then I waited about 10 minutes in the exam room.  That was much better than the 2 hours with Dr Bear.  Overall, I was happy with my experience and plan to use him for future pregnancies.

  • I'm so glad I saw this post.  Dr. Bear delivered our daughter, and I also ran hot and cold with my feelings about him.  The 2hr wait for appointments was beyond ridiculous, and we are going to start trying again for baby no. 2 very soon, so I've been thinking about switching as well.  We also liked Women's Pavillion, so I think I may look into the doctors you guys reccommended!

  • I know this is a little late, but I can't say enough good things about Dr. McAvoy and the rest of the group, especially Dr. Dolan.  This group delivered both of my daughters and I was very happy with them.
