Yes, almost a year ago when a relative gave her a pb chip cookie. They later said they had heard of people being allergic to peanuts but not peanut butter. Dumb.
No, thank goodness!! But thanks for the heads up about always carrying 2 epis.. we have 3, but usually just grab one as we head out of the house. I'll always grab the twin-pack now!

Wow. I swear people are incredibly stupid when it comes to food allergies. When DS was allergic to Wheat (outgrew that one, leaving just peanuts and tree nuts which are incredibly severe), someone gave him a plate of pasta - which I immediately grabbed and removed - because she only thought there was wheat in things like "whole wheat bread".
Yes, after DS#3 drank his older brother's cow's milk. He vomited then hives started right away. In just a couple of minutes his face was so mis-shapen by the hives that he was unrecognizable.
The amazing thing was how fast the Epi worked. By the time the paramedics got to our house you never would have known anything happened - he seemed totally normal. But going to the ER is so important. About an hour later he developed a second set of hives (the bi-phasic reaction you hear about) and had to be given more Epi.
My twins are 5! My baby is 3!
DS#2 - Allergic to Cashew, Pistachio, Kiwi
DS#3 - Allergic to Milk, Egg, Peanut, Tree Nuts and Sesame
Thank you for this poll! I too only carry one epi typically for my DD but I will now carry both. Ladies I am so sorry to hear about how moronic people are being with the food ingredients issue. I went through the same issue at my daughter's old preschool. I use to teach there and was walking through her classroom (it was connected to the front office) when I heard her YELLING at an assistant "NO! I DON'T WANT THAT." I turned to correct her manners in suprise (she is a very mellow child) when I saw the cause of the issue...the assistant kept pushing a bowl of waffles back in front of her. She was pushing it away again saying she couldn't eat it because it had eggs in it. Her assistant said "Well there not homemade they are frozen so I thought it was OK". WHAT?!?! Grrrr. I left that job back in May thank goodness.
Thanks for letting me vent! And good luck ladies!

And, the first injection failed - the Epi Pen didn't deploy correctly. Thankfully, we always carry both doses and could use the second one right away.
Always, always, always carry 2 Epis!!
I wonder how often that happens! Our first one didn't work either, and that was with the doctor trying to get it to work. My LO had a peanut butter reaction - facial swelling, body covered in hives, vomitting.

thankfully we haven't had to. Benedryl has fixed all of our isses so far- but now I'm going to ask about an rx for more epi pens. We keep one at daycare and the other in our diaper bag- so we never have both on hand. Sounds like we might need to.

Another reason you want to carry two is that the reaction can reoccur after giving the first dose. So, you want the second dose on hand in case you need to use it while waiting for the ambulance or while driving to the hospital.
Not yet, thankfully. And since Will just passed his peanut challenge we didn't get the Rx renewed but I'll still keep them until they're no good anymore. Since we know both kids are very atopic, I feel better having them on hand. (And they still haven't had fish, shellfish or most tree nuts yet so I'm still a little wary.)
Each Epi buys you approximately 15 minutes of time to get medical assistance. So if you're going somewhere that medical assistance would be harder to come across (on an airplane, when camping, etc.) you want to have quite a few with you.
