Pre-School and Daycare

Who else is thinking about back-to-school shopping? :)

You'd think after three years, clothes shopping would be old hat, but I'm really looking forward to our first official school shopping! Plus, there have been a lot of good sales lately on summer things that will carry DD1 through the change of seasons.

How many outfits/pants/shirts/etc. will you aim for? Will you buy a bunch of stuff at once, or pick things up over time? Will it be mostly play/casual stuff, or some nicer things? Any back-to-school-shopping tips/strategies? Where do you like to shop?

I'm not great at estimating DD1's clothing needs. We tend to buy lightly at the start of a season, but then we end up doing more shopping b/c DD1 doesn't have enough of one thing or another. I want to take advantage of the back-to-school sales and pick up more up-front this time around.

DD1 likes wearing skirts and dresses, so we'll get some of those along with pants and shirts. And I think we'll get an extra pair of casual non-sneaker shoes; she tends to wear her sneakers pretty hard, so it'll be good to have something to rotate them with more often.

I try to shop the sales at Hanna Andersson and Gap, and hit up ON for jeans, undies, and cheap basics. And I think I'll also pick up some things through zulily, since I have a long time before we'll need it.

  • My DD isn't in school yet, but I'm excited for the back-to-school supplies sales. That's when we stock up on markers, glue, etc., for all of our craft projects.

  • I've hit a couple of sales already and picked up some pieces.  Since school here starts August 1st and it stays hot well into fall, I got a lot of good bargains on warm-weather clothing that he'll be able to wear for a few months.  I figure I will have to do a second shopping trip later on for cold-weather things.  Also, DS's birthday is in the summer, so I asked for clothing from family as well.  He should be getting at least 2-3 more outfits.  I want to be sure he has at least 10 tops, and 5 pairs of shorts.  I think we have more shorts than that now though, haha.  Hopefully after his birthday he'll have 10 shirts, if not I'll buy a couple more.  I do need to still buy him some shoes though.

  • I've already done mine at the Gymboree outlet a few months ago during a really big sale.  I love the way their clothing coordinates and gives you so many options to mix and match, plus the hair accessories.  Also, their adjustable waists are a lifesaver for my skinny peanut.  I bought a ton- 10-15 tops, 8-10 pants/skirts, a couple dresses, a jacket, a couple sweaters, leggings, shoes.  I probably went overboard, but I only really get two years of fun school shopping before DD starts kindergarten and will be wearing a uniform (I'll still buy her regular clothing for after school, but it's not exactly the same).

  • Probably my favorite kind of shopping!!  It was fun doing it last year when DS1 went to prek-3K.  This fall he's going to prek-4 and the following will be kindergarden!!

I'm excited about getting items from his school supply list.  I haven't yet gotten in the mood for back to school clothes shopping---but I am sure that I will! :-))

I like Gap, The Children's Place, and Old Navy.
