I just purchased a stash of 36 newborn dipes (prefolds, fitteds, pockets, AIOs) on eBay. I've been researching all morning on how I should wash them, and think I have decided to strip using Dawn.
I know that the sanitize setting is a big no-no for cloth diapers because it can ruin the elastic, snaps & PUL, but if I do it just one time to kill any bacteria (I guess I'm worried about yeast from the previous user) will it be a problem? Or would you just do a hot/cold setting and then sun them in hopes of killing any leftover bacteria?
Re: Washing used cloth dipes
I wouldn't do the sanitize setting on the fitteds, pockets or AIO's for the reasons you mentioned. But the prefolds would be fine.
As for the others, if you're concerned about yeast, I would use bleach and then rinse, rinse rinse!
