What do you do at night?

My LO is 3 mo old and has been STTN for the past couple of weeks (about 9 hours).  My question to all of you is, do you still get up and pump in the middle of the night?  I had not been and now my period has returned and my supply has dropped.

So, if you have an awesome sleeper, what do you do at night?

Re: What do you do at night?

  • Yay for STTN!!  At about 3 mo I quit the night pumping - I wanted my sleep too!  I don't know about about adding it back in though when you have your period; fingers crossed, I still haven't gotten mine at almost 7 mo pp.  I hoping it stays away until he is weaned!  I would enjoy the sleep if it were me.  My LO still nurses about 11:00pm, so I'm not completely uncomfortable at 7:00...

  • I pump before I go to bed and again in the AM before LO gets up. DH does one feeding (6am before he goes to work) AND I am trying to have a good stash when I return to work.

  • Are you EPing? Or are you pumping at night to relieve engorgement?

BFing is a supply and demand process. If your LO continues to STTN, your body will eventually figure it out, and you will no longer be engorged at night. If you keep pumping, your body will never get the message.

Not sure whether this applies if you're EPing, though... I BF and pump, so I can only speak for that.

  • I pump 2 hours after LO goes to sleep at night. It helps me feel comfortable and gives me some in the fridge/freezer. I would NOT wake up in the middle of the night to do it - I do it pretty much right before I go to bed.
