Wenatchee Mamas?

We are seriously considering a move from S. Seattle to Wenatchee this year. DH has a job offer that is pretty sweet. We're going to meet with the potential new boss and check out Wenatchee this Sun/Mon and talk over the salary/benefits.

We always loved living in Seattle, but now with the kidlet we aren't really going and doing all the things that made it so awesome before. So I think the decrease in cost of living and steady salary are things I'm willing to leave Seattle for.

Just wondering if there's other Wenatchee mamas on here (or surrounding areas). And how do you like it?

Re: Wenatchee Mamas?

  • I am in Moses Lake we have been here for almost 3 years, I grew up in

Ephrata/ Moses Lake area and lived in Western WA for 8 years before we moved here.  Wenatchee is about 60 miles north from here

I love the cost of living here, I love the no traffic we can get 20 miles in 20 mins and I love the 4 seasons,

the drawbacks is the lack of shopping we have to go 90 miles to Spokane, or Tri cities for any malls and in the winter there is not alot of things to do for the kids in the winter. However Wenatchee is a bit bigger and have more options for shoping and activties it is a great area  to live.

  • I'm in the Seattle area, but I have a friend who did what you are considering.  She and her DH were house-hunting over here, but ended up moving to Ephrata.  For the same cost of a 2-bed condo on the Eastside, they got a 3-bed, 2-bath single family home, with a yard and 3-car garage.  They love being able to go outdoors more often (less rain) and the lower cost of living.  Plus, my friend's mom lives in Moses Lake, which is great now that they have kids (free day care).  The main downside they've experienced, aside from shopping requiring a drive, is finding work.  They had jobs when they first moved (Seattle employer let them work from home), but later had to find new jobs.  They were both used to working in software/technology, but couldn't find anything related.  My friend eventually found work, but her husband had some trouble.  He's now gone back to school, though.

ETA:  For the first couple of years, my friends would come to this side approx once/mo to shop, see friends, and maybe do something in Seattle.  I think that helped them feel connected and still have access to amenities on this side.

    Thanks!

The great thing with DH's job (I SAH) is he's a plumber & heating/AC tech. Guaranteed work wherever we choose to live. Plus in Wenatchee the AC work will be in much higher demand than here.

We do also plan to come back every couple months for a long weekend with friends/family. We might actually see some of our friends more often this way! :)

  • We just moved from Marysville to Spokane last month, but my parents live about 40 miles southeast of Wenatchee.  They are even farther from everything, Moses Lake is the closest but doesn't offer that much shopping wise. They usually go to Wenatchee for all their needs as far as food or other things.  They have some nice shopping centers there.  The cost of living is a bit more than the surrounding areas. Ephrata is East of Wenatchee and l lot smaller, but it does cost less to live there.  My cousins have lived there for a few years, they moved from Carnation. My parents have had their house for about 25 years, we used it mainly for Summer time, but they moved there 6 years ago.

We will be making the Trip back to Seattle to visit friends and family about 2-3 times a year.  Although I would probably make it less if I could! I don't miss the area at all (yet).
