Hi all -
I will most likely just be a lurker here but wanted to introduce myself.
Dh and I are starting the TTC journey, and I am currently coming to the end of my first 2ww (ugh, it's been a roller coaster). I chart (Creighton method) as well as teach charting but since Creighton is a little different than the method ff uses (no temps, etc), it would be easier if I didn't sign up for ff. Hope everyone here has a success story soon!

Michaela - the Creighton method (https://www.creightonmodel.com/) charts fluids only (occasionally you chart other biomarkers but only for diagnosing problems). It's very specific and standardized in its terminology, and the couple is taught one-on-one by a licensed teacher. It's often used to help diagnose and treat fertility problems as well as for research. We don't think I am infertile but I am being treated for a short luteal phase (hcg injections) and am getting tested for a possible thyroid condition!
Lol, sorry I don't mean to laugh it's just that Creighton is one of the least fishy methods.
Have you ever heard of the Billings Ovulation Method? Have you ever heard of Dr. Erik Odeblad? Thanks to these guys, we know what cervical mucus is and how the cervix works. Creighton is the standardized version of Billings. I originally linked to just a basic website (because I didn't want to come off as trying to advertise on this board) but if you want more info, here https://www.fertilitycare.org/.
To teach Creighton you have to receive an allied health certification. And yes, you have to be taught by a real life teacher who manages your case and makes sure you gain confidence in the method. (Plenty of FAM/NFP methods are taught by instructors). Again, Creighton is used in research to evaluate and treat reproductive health problems, so it has to be well-taught and standardized.
ETA: Other methods taught in person - Sympto-Thermal (Couple to Couple League https://www.ccli.org/) and Billings https://www.boma-usa.org/. Almost all reliable charting methods are based on the same science and combine charting of mucus with other symptoms.
In Creighton you chart: bleeding, cervical mucus, vaginal discharges, and other symptoms depending on your reproductive category.
Sympto-Thermal: Chart symptoms such as discharges (mucus etc) combined with temps.
Billings: similar to Creighton as stated above.
Marquette is another method that is used for research: https://nfp.marquette.edu/
